I just hooked up my Start 55TM to TOMTOM Home and was notified that a new version of the map is available.
I have lifetime maps but this is the first new map that I am able to install. Is there a reason to wait or should I install it as soon as possible? I have made lots of updates to my current map, mostly speed limit changes, although I was told to copy a certain config file to preserve those changes and copy it back after the map update.

Correct - the version 895 maps were just released

The decision about updating your maps depends upon your personal circumstances - there is no single answer. Unless I am planning a trip, I typically skip most map updates. Other people might have very valid reasons for installing every update.
In my case, very little is changing in my area, so it is not worth the expenditure of the time and energy to download and install the new maps - especially since map downloads are typically slow. In the area where my daughter's family lives, there are a lot of new homes, businesses, and roads going in, so I would download every new map if I lived there.
As it is, I download the latest map whenever we plan to visit them, and I download the latest map whenever we take a driving vacation, since I can't be certain how much change is occurring in areas with which I am not familiar.
FWIW, TomTom maps are normally released every three months, and are normally numbered in increments of 5. So a 890.xxxx map was released three months ago, and a 875.xxxx map was released a year ago. If you look at the information on your device in the "Settings > Me and my device > About my device" screen (the names may differ slightly with the model) you can find the age of your map from the map number.
On my device, the date of the release is also given there, but I do not know if the date is provided on all models. (Also, the date shown there is normally a month prior to the release to the public, so map 890 has a date of April 2012, rather than May 2012. I assume that map 895 will have a date of July 2012, even though it is actually being released to the public today.)
BTW, unless I have a reason to do otherwise, I usually wait a couple of weeks after a new map is released before downloading it. The rush of users downloading right after a new map release tends to slow down the download speed even more than usual.
With best wishes,

895 Maps
I just checked TT Home & TT.com. Both are still showing 890 maps. No 895 maps are listed. I also checked 4 forums that I monitor, & none of them mention 895 maps.
Maybe I assumed something I shouldn't have
When I connect my TomTom and TTHome opens and checks for updates, after applying the updates and back on the main screen it has a red box with the following:
"Newer versions of you map are available.
Get them for as little as $11.99 per quarter with our new Map Update Service."
I currently have 890 installed on my TT.

That is nothing but 1 of TomTom's "Sales Pitches".
I got the same message, when I updated my TT this morning
