Last Nuvi to NOT use Trip Planner

Ok I am sick of Trip Planner in my Nuvi 2555 so I am looking for the last Nuvi that DOES NOT use it, so please post models if you know them.I know all below the Nuvi 1450 did not have it so are there any after the 1450 that do not have the piece of @%$&#@ trip planner.

No big deal....

Just don't use it... My 2450 has it but I have never used it... Not mandatory!!!!

I would love to not use it but it is the only way you can get custom routes onto the unit and use them.

It is mandatory

It is mandatory if you want the GPS to be able to use multi point routes.

Any device with a model number of 1xxx or below would not use Trip Planner, with the exception of the 1695 and possibly the 1690. I know for sure that the 1695 uses it.

Thanks

Thanks for the info I will look into a model that will except the custom routes I make.

gnico,

my 760 failed last week and I have become accustomed to using Routing as we have known it. I asked the same quesiton and Alan kindly provided the following:

If I recall, the Trip Planner was introduced with the 37xx series nuvi. It has been included on the models since then that support preplanned routes (certain models of 1695, 23xx, 24xx, 25xx, 34xx and 35xx series). I think even the newly announced Zumo model has a version of Trip Planner.

If you want to find a nuvi with the old legacy custom routes, you will need to look for a 7x0, 7x5, 8x0, 8x5, 14xx or 1690. There are a couple of others like the 5000 and 5xx, but they are kind of specialized units. The other option (if you have a ton of money to spend) is the Garmin Montana which can do both auto navigation and handheld functions (for hiking, geocaching, boating, etc.)

A few days ago I bought the 5" 1450 (it's a 1490 sans Bluetooth) from Amazon for $130 and that's quite the bargain. Even though the Owner's guide for the 1450 doesn't make mention of the Routing feature, it works EXACTLY the same as my dead 760.

BTW, my 760 was a victim of FW 5.30 sad

I think

I think it's not really how you create Routes and Trip Planner trips that's the problem. Either facility is pretty much the same when it comes to creating them, either on the device or in Mapsource/Basecamp.

The issue is more how much different Trip Planner is to use on the Nuvi than the Routes facility is. It's kind of hard to explain but if you have ever created and then followed a multi point route you'll find doing the same thing on a Nuvi that only uses Trip Planner to be very different, from selecting start points to what happens when you reach/pass one of the waypoints on your route/trip etc. Basically, if you have used Routes in the past, getting use to Trip Planner is a bit of a PITA.

not same on current 3790 software

On my 3790LMT with current (4.90 I think) software, there is a quite visible difference in via clearance behavior depending on whether one is navigating a route built in Trip Planner vs. just creating a multi-point route on the fly by the classic method of using Where To? the final waypoint, then selecting using Where To? on the next nearer waypoint and answering the question of whether to incorporate it as a via toward the current destination, or as a brand-new destination abandoning current.

Assuming you have built it on-the-fly without resort to Trip Planner, as you approach a via you see the magenta line continuing on beyond the via you have not yet reached. But if instead you are operating a Trip Planner built route, the magenta line stops at the via until the unit decides you have cleared the via, at which point it makes magenta toward the next.

Not, perhaps, the most significant difference, but clearly visible, and possibly hinting there may be other differences.

Trip Planner

I use trip planner often on trips using a 2350LMT, creating way points from state to state, sometimes Garmin's routes(Fastest Time, ect.) are not the way I want to take.
