Before GPS units when guys were lost, they refused to stop to ask for directions.

Can you name the women aboard the Columbus ships when he came to America?

Are you sure that's the tactic you want to take? Sure, Columbus "discovered" America, but he thought he was where exactly? East Indies? Now if there were women aboard...

By the way, I prefer Jack. I can't stand it when Jill takes over. I did record some directions in my voice for laughs. Now I can argue with myself.

American Jill

I've modified it using TurboCCC's program so that it doesn't say the annoying recalculating any more.

American Jill....but I may soon change because when she says "ree-calculating" she does it with such disdain, impatience, and disgust. Almost like "you dummy, don't you know where to go? Why aren't you listening to me?"

I get this from my wife already.

Change recalculating to " OK, you're the boss."

Have to ask..

Since I got my 2455LMT, I have not heared it say "Recalucating" Is that the new settings .. not to say anything but to just do it? I must say, I do miss it sometimes...

Using TTS editor, you can always replace the 'recalculating' on other voices with blanks.

Australian Karen

I don't recall seeing this ancient thread before. It seems like exhuming a body from the grave.

Australian Karen is my favorite. Australian Karen is the only GPS voice personality that I've seen covered both in newsprint and TV. Plus, Karen is quite pleasant to both the eyes and ears.

Yup

My choice as well. I only have one issue with her and it's due to my thinking that "Hey Karen" is the only wakeup voice command to use. With only Hey Karen, I do get false "Say your Command" responses fairly often. Do any of you Karen users have a better wakeup command with fewer false alerts?

My GPS ALWAYS alerts when my radio does the NOAA alert start and stop audio on the radio and I've also found that I can't play any CD with Tuvan throat singing as Karen responds to the music every 10 seconds or so. Ha, a certain PTB (Power That Be) here who I'll call GT heard of my Tuvan issue and found some to play as s/he was working, only to get a "What the H***" from a coworker that I'll call J*. twisted I'll have to review the earlier pages of this thread to see if I've offered a Tuvan link. It's not my fault, blame Richard Feynman. I think I've created the two aliases so none of you will figure out who I'm referring to.

[Later]

If you haven't checked for voice updates recently, depending upon your Garmin GPS model, Karen's voice received the latest updated voice file between June 2013 and May 2018:

PS: A search here at the POI Factory for Karen Voice brings up 27 pages of threads to read.

Links from another thread:

I find that I get false positive wakeups almost always when my FM radio broadcast is interrupted by the NOAA alert tone of three buzzes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdkhyeJ6lZ0

and also found that while playing a CD of Tuvan throat singing that the nuvi would wake up several times per track, particularly when the track is sung in Kargyraa:

Never argue with a pig. It makes you look foolish and it anoys the hell out of the pig!

Does mute count? I find

Does mute count? I find silence to be less distracting than 'recalculating' repeated again and again.

What Voice Do Most Of You Use?

Anybody has cool new voices,,, I'm kinda tired of same old..........

If you don't have eleven English language voices on your Dezl, you may want to check here and add the new ones through Garmin Express:

American Jill and Drivesmart 55

Anyone know if it is possible the install the American Jill TTS voice on a Drivesmart 55? I manually downloaded the Jill file but when extracted it is in a .RGN format with an additional Updater file. The voice files on my DS 55 are in .VPM. I installed the large English file using Garmin Express but the Jill file is not there.

The FAQ should be up to date

It looks like you're out of luck. The DS 55 offers only these voices and its voice engine won't work with other Garmin products' Jill:

Large file size, highest-quality TTS3 voices offering Real Directions

Serena, 2.20, 5/10/18 (also offers Real Voice)
Samantha, 2.70, 10/2/18 (also offers Real Voice)
Daniel, 2.20, 5/10/18
Jack, 2.70, 10/2/18
Lee, 2.30, 5/10/18
Karen, 2.20, 5/10/18
Sangeeta, 2.20, 5/10/18

The devices that use TTS3 voices also offer the non-text-to-speech voices Michelle, Matilda, James and Kate described earlier.

Have you tried Karen's voice? Many folks here use it.

https://thegpsgirl.com/

On the other hand, you could contact Jill and see what she'd charge to create a voice just for you twisted

Thanks CraigW

Thanks for the reply and FAQ CraigW, learnt something new. I thought I would just ask here just to see if it was at all possible.

Haven't changed it, still

Haven't changed it, still have Jill, oh well.
