What voice do most of you use?

I just got my Nuvi and have been using the Australian chick too!

Amongst some of the men in this sandbox...this one included.

American Jill....but I may soon change because when she says "ree-calculating" she does it with such disdain, impatience, and disgust. Almost like "you dummy, don't you know where to go? Why aren't you listening to me?"

I get this from my wife already.

I just changed from her to the American gal. I think Aussie Karen was two timing we with that British dude, Daniel.

She and I are done. FREEEEDOOMM!!

I prefer the gal-down under-most of the time!

I have a hearing problem that is especially noticeable in noisy environments. "Jack's" voice is easier for me to understand.

I've tried them all and Karen from Australia seems the easiest to understand even though her emphasis is wrong at times. It sounds like they use people to generate the voice that don't speak English. How else could they make such obvious mistakes?

After months of listening to Karen, her voice is starting to sound very monotonous.

Wouldn't it be really great feature to be able to record and use your own voice?

I use Jill too. i like it when she gets mad at me and sounds really testy with "recalculating". My wife isn't jealous, she just says she is happy that she isn't the only one I ignore when coming to directions!

I have the c530 and the Australian voice is not an option on the factory unit. Can I download and install the Australian voice file even though I think it's intended for units that speakout street names which the c530 doesn't support. I.e. will it default to generic "turn right in 500 feet" instructions?

I don't think that TTS voices will work with units that don't support TTS. I don't think that it will default to the generic. You can see what voices are available for your unit by running WebUpdater.

American Jill is just too boring.

Does Karen remind anybody else of Nicole Kidman? Or is just my overactive imagination?

It is also somewhat funny to see how Karen pronounces those Spanish street names (I live in So Cal where there are a ton of them, especially near my house).

We've come to call the British English voice "Emma". Does Garmin actually have official names for these voices? I don't have Australian as as option, only American and British English, and I can't find any male voices. (I was hoping for a masculine German voice).

The TTS (text-to-speech) voices have names. The regular voices don't. You can see what voices are available for your unit by running WebUpdater.

To my ear, Dennis (British male) is the most like a speaking voice and the least like a compuer talking.

I use Eva Longoria. Boy, Garmin thinks of everything. LOL

I wish I had that option for my KNA G510. It only offers Jill. I put my request in to Garmin. Hopefully they'll come out with an update. Has anyone else noticed that the female Australian pronounces abreviated Drives (Dr.) "doctor"?

I have a Nuvi360 and use American Jack. I wish I had a Tom Tom so I could use Bubba. He is funny! Tom Tom offers a lot of celebrity voices, which I wish Garmin would offer.

I tried out Austrialian guy--Lee I think, and he seems more human sounding than Karen.

I use American Jill as well, but after a long trip, she develops a bit of an attitude. I am seeking English with an eastern European accent like the old Bond movies!!!!

Ah. My nuvi doesn't have TTS, so that explains the lack of names.

I like Australian Karen, but I think American Jack annunciates better so he can sometimes be understood better over the background noise.

I like the Australian Karen's voice BUT I don't like how she says the highway numbers while I'm driving; I-476 would be "I four hundred seventy six"... maybe I'm just being picky.

I used jill then switched to jack because people said it sounds more natural. I definately does, but becuse Jills tone in "higher" it comes through "clearer" for some reason in my car. Jack seems to blend in more with the lower frequencies in my car. I am back to Jill

Is there an option or way to change voices on the c550?

I'm using Jack. Nothing against the female voices, just not my, um, preference.

I use Jack, he seems to speak clearly and is very patient when "recalculating." Never gets angry or exasperated when I veer off course. Although it's usually his fault for telling me "next right" when it's really the second right.

Does anyone know if there are any celeb voice downloads available for Garmin??

I like the Australian chick the best.. but my girlfriend claims that she can't understand her, so now I use the British guy.. :-/

On my Nuvi 660, the TTS voices are too quiet to hear, even with the volume all the way up. The non-TTS voice is fine. Is this just my unit?

I only have 2 english choices on mine. One American female and a Britsh female. I usually use the Brit.

If I need a laugh I'll rename Home something I want to hear Aussie Karen say only in a way that Aussie voice can say. Arriving at I NEED A BEER.

Peter, I have the same reaction to Jill. She has been on the receiving end of some feedback about her attitude. I don't think she's programed to understand some of the language I used.

I am a newbie with a Garmin Zumo 550. I just changed my voice from Jill to Jack but could not find the "Australian Chick." Is this voice not resident on the Zumo 550. You all sem to like her so is there somwhere that I can download her? Thanks everone for tolerating my newbie question.
