Garmin 2360LMT Custom POI

I have loaded the Dunkin Donuts and Rest Area POI (including a BMP and MP3 for each) and loaded them using the Garmin POI Loader (http://brillharts.com/GarminAlerts/). The file names were changed so that the nuvi would recognize each BMP & MP3 as part of the corresponding CVS. Problem: No matter how I load the files (automatic or manual) into the GPS, the POI is accuratly located but the default sound and BMP are not overridden by the custom MP3 and BMP files that I loaded. Can someone help me out? I'm about ready to toss the Garmin and go back to TomTom which is MUCH more user friendly. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Perhaps double extensions

Welcome to the site.

Since you are new, you may want to do a couple of the Beginner Exercises.

To make it easy, when you click on the first link below, hold down the "Cntl" key as you left-click. That will open a new "Tab" in your browser in the "Tab" bar. Click on that 'Tab" to do the first exercise - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

The first link makes sure settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.

It may be that you have "double extensions" and this is causing your problem of the bmp files not being activated. Since you are getting the default alert, you do have alerts turned on.

This next link helps you get a backup by attaching your GPS to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

Hang in here. You get the POIs so that is half the battle.

MP3 alerts.

Your unit does not have a MP3 player and therefore does not support .mp3 files for custom alerts. Instead you need to use .wav sound files and an audio conversion utility named SOX.EXE with POI Loader. The details are given in this FAQ: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730.

Hope this helps. Have some patience with your nuvi and check out the FAQ's and it will all come together for you.

How to get a wav file from a mp3 file

Glad alandb noted the fact that you can not use mp3 files. I was so intent on having you do some of the exercises (especially backup) that I did not hoist in the fact that you were using .mp3 files (one of the beauties of this site is that there are lots of sharp eyed members)

Many of us use Audacity to convert mp3 files to wav files. This is a free app

You can get it at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
