Custom POI Files

I have loaded custom POIs on my Nuvi 1490. I named the file "Custom POI". It appears under the Extra section. Two Questions: 1. Can I load another file using the POI Loader with a different name such as "Travel POI" and have both of the files appear in Extra as separate entries? 2. Can I use a rename my current file, "Custom POI", and have my files load with the POI Loader and be recognized by my GPS using the new name?

Recent POI Loaders give the user the ability to give a "name" to the .gpi file created by each separate run of POI Loader. It used to be that POILoader always created an output file called POI.GPI which would, of course, replace any file by that name in the [nuvi]\Garmin\POI folder.

So, you can do another run of POI Loader and add a new .gpi file to the [nuvi]\Garmin\POI folder. That new file will appear as second in the list of POIs under "All Categories", I think.

If I understand question 2: yes, you can rename the [nuvi]\Garmin\POI\Custom Poi.gpi file in your nuvi to another name and then do another run of POI Loader which creates a new "Custom POI.gpi" file on the nuvi.

Recall that "folders" under the folder to which POI Loader is pointed become "categories" under Where To? > Extras > Custom POIs > "All Categories"

The first thing to show up will be the last run of POI Loader. Then, the renamed .gpi file will come next.

Thanks for your help. I ran the loader and pointed it to my folder of POIs on my computer. I then completed the field on POI Loader that asks for a name and typed in the name "New Folder". Everything went as expected. When I went to my GPS I selected Where to>Extras> and was then given the option of "Custom POI" and not the "New Name". I went to the GPS and made sure the .GPI file was named New Name and it was. After selecting Extra I would like a list of POI files (Folders) ie New Name 1, New name2 etc. I travel and would like to list different set of categories for each region as a set of different POIs germane to that region. Is this possible.

If you did it correctly you will find them under "Custom Poi".
