Reversing a Route.

Is there a way to reverse a custom route on a Nuvi?

Thanks.

How do I create edit or delete a route on my nuvi LIVE zumo or dezl device?

Creating a multiple-point route allows you to navigate among several points. On devices that allow for multiple stop routing, you can add up to 200 points on any given route. Routes can be saved to the unit's memory for use at a later date. The number of routes that can be saved to a device will vary depending upon the model.
To create a route on a nuvi 465, 500, 700, 705, 800, 805, 1400, 1690, or 5000 series, or a zumo:
1. Touch Where to? on the main menu
2. Touch Routes or Custom Routes
3. If no previous routes have been created, touch Yes when the prompt appears asking if you'd like to create one. If previous routes have already been created, touch New
4. Touch Add New Start Point. (Please note that the Start Point is not necessarily the point from where you'll be leaving. The Start Point will be the first point you would like to travel to.)
5. Use the various search functions to find and touch the desired starting point
6. Touch Select
7. Touch Add New Start Point or Add New End Point to add a second point
8. Follow steps 5 and 6 to locate and add your second point
9. Add further points by touching Add New Start Point, Add New End Point or the green arrows
o Touching the green arrows will add a destination in between the two points indicated
o Remove points by touching the red box next to the point(s) you want to remove
10. Touch Next once all desired points have been added. The device will calculate the route and display it on the map preview screen
11. Touch Save to finish or touch Back to return and add/remove more points
Once the route has been saved, it may be edited as desired. The device can optimally reorder the points for you. You may also manually reorder the points. The route may also be deleted. To edit or delete a route, follow these steps:
1. Touch Where to?
2. Touch Routes or Custom Routes
3. Touch the route that you would like to edit
4. Touch Edit (skip this step on some devices)
5. Select from the following options:
o Change Name: Customize the name of the saved route as it appears within the Routes or Custom Routes menu
o Add or Remove Points: Add or remove destinations to the saved route
o Manually Reorder Points: Manually select the order in which you would like to be routed to all the entered points
o Optimally Reorder Points: Have the device calculate the most optimum order in which to travel to all the entered points
o Recalculate: If navigation settings have been changed or a map update has been completed, select this option to have the device recalculate the route
o Reverse Points (available only on the zumo 660 and 665): Reverses all entered points for a return trip
o Delete: This appears as a button at the bottom of the screen rather than a menu item. This will permanently remove the route from the Routes or Custom Routes list.
o View Map (only on the nuvi 1400 series): Allows you to preview the route in its entirety
When the route has been edited to your satisfaction, touch the Go! button to proceed with navigation. Please note that the nuvi 1400 series will only display the Go! button after you've touched the View Map option indicated in the final step above.

Bummer.

Apparently I can not reverse the route on my Nuvi 765t.
Oh well. Maybe it is time to update.

Route reversal

Herbsch, below is a post I made on another forum regarding route reversal on a nuvi. I have successfully used this method many times on my two nuvi's (755T and 855). It only takes a minute or two to try it.

Quote:

Here is one method that sometimes works on reversing a multipoint route. First, you must save the route as a custom route and not just create it as the active route. When you are ready to reverse the route, go to Tools - Custom Routes - select the route - Edit - Manually Reorder Points. Move the original start point to the end and the original finish point to the start. Press "Next" and "Save". (Note this route will be convoluted, but don't worry. The next step will fix it.) Now go back to Edit and select Optimally Reorder Points. Save and and your route is now the reversed route of the original.

Note that if any of your via points are on one way streets or in the appropriate lane for a divided highway, you will need to move these vias so they will be at locations going in the correct direction for the reversed route. Otherwise you will get backtracking when the route is recalculated.

I have had good success with this method when the points in the original route are optimized. If the via points are in a non direct sequence, the method will not work.

Thank you alandb.

I will make a hard copy of the text and take it with me. When I'm ready to head home I will try this.

No! Not your 765T

Alandb posted the easiest way to reverse a direct route on your 765T. If you want to maintain a route for both directions you need to use the PC to make a copy and then reverse the copy.

The latest Nuvi I have is the 1450 and the route reversing process is the same on it as the 765T. I don't know for sure but all the new Nuvis may be the same.

The Zumo 660/665 motorcycle models have a selection to 'Reverse Points' on Custom Routes immediately after the Optimally Reorder' selection. It also allows you to TracBack on the last trip log file and/or save it as a route. You can also open any trip logs currently saved on the Zumo and create and save a route with them.

Good Luck,

Interesting.

I played with the PC but can't find out how to do this. Can you explain?

Mapsource

The routes are part of the 'current.gpx' file. Use Mapsource to 'Receive from Device' the routes, make a copy, rename it or reverse it right in Mapsource and then send it back to the GPS with 'Send to Device'.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Inverted route.

OK, I inverted and recalculated the route and send it to the device but I can't see it on the gps under custom routes. Just the original route.

Import Routes

Look under 'Tools / My Data / Import Routes' and see if it is there to select and import.

Use MapSource

HerbSch wrote:

You can use MapSource to reverse the route. When I wanted this, I copied the route, renamed as B to A and then reversed it. End up with two routes on the Nuvi, and A to B route and a reversed B to A route.

Not as handy as doing it on the Nuvi itself, but it can be done.

Great job

Now you can go backwards! smile
