Garmin Lifetime Updater

Bin talked about before, just boggles my mind. They get you to download the Garmin Lifetime Updater and they give you 3 options, one of them is put the update on your Computer. I have NEVER gotten that option to work.
Even if I choose Device and Computer it still doesn't work.
It will install on the unit only. Always tells me it failed to put the installation files on my Computer. It does dump some files into my Temp directory, which i keep.
There is a *.msi file in the IMG Directory which actually starts up the update setup, no idea if it will actually finish the job.

Hmmm....

I have both Mapsource and BaseCamp loaded on my computer and never had an issue with them not receiving the update.

What Update?

Which one? It updates my Unit no problem, just won't give me the map on my Computer.

Net Framework

Do you have Net Framework installed on your Computer?

Both Basecamp & Mapsource need it installed to work.

Yep But

I have Microsoft NET Framework NGEN v4.0.30319_X86
installed but its set to Manual. It's service name is clr_optimization_v4.0.30319_32. Hence why I set it to manual. Shouldn't affect its running. Basecamp works fine.

Lifetime Updater

As you known, Garmin has had problems with this program since day 1. Many updates later and still working as poorly.

Option 2 on the other hand has worked flawlessly for me thus far smile

I've had no problems

I've had no problems installing to "computer only" since it downloads a heck of a lot faster directly to my PC. I was then successful in doing a "reinstall" to both "device and computer" with no problems and without having to re-download anything since it automatically detected the maps on my PC hard disk. It's always good to have a backup on your PC hard disk.

First time ok

First time I was able to use the program.BUT never again. I just use option 2 on Garmin web site and it works great.

I can never get it to work.

I can never get it to work. I just go to the website. That works best for me.

It is so true Garmin has had

It is so true Garmin has had many problems with updating their maps over the net, the best is always to choose option 2 and install only to device unless you need the maps installed on your computer

Both

Both work fine for me. I use the computer to plan bike routes for my edge 605.

I did an update a week ago

I did an update a week ago just to GPS. It looked like it was working OK, but when it was time to load onto the GPS said error loading & call Garmin. Called & a service rep loaded an other app on my PC & then it worked. She says they are having trouble & a new vers. should be out soon. Funny the 1st time I did this all worked as it should. Now it mush be working again as I get updater tells me maps are ready to down load. But they are now one the unit after dealing with service rep.

Choose option #2

Use option #2 is better and it worked fine for me.

Choose option #2

That's not an Option. If option #1 doesn't work, and option #3 doesn't work, then I have NO Options. I have one choice. Here's the deal for me. I backup my unit before i update the Map anyways. Why? Because I have to. If the upgrade goes sour, or it stalls or doesn't install right, i need to sit there and hope that it does it right the second time around. People have had that happen. If i have the Map on my system, I can install it when ever. I don't need to back it up. Original back up is all i need to keep, and all my Favorites and poi's. Since I want to keep all the maps.
I have no choice at the moment, I have to back up my whole unit each time. Lots of wasted space.

Install to Unit

I've had Lifetime Updater for some time now and load directly to my 3760 with no problems. This is also the easiest method for me instead of loading to my pc.
