Software version on Windows 10 shows 7.27.0+e0f66065. Back to the drawing board lol.

Sometimes you have to pick apart the wording

Taking the wording exactly as shown, “Fixed an issue with device software displaying incorrectly”, I think they mean the software version as ON the device, not the Garmin Express version.

Thanks

Updated with no problems.

SelfUpdater logs

The GE software update reenabled the task schedule that will automatically run a Garmin Express check on updates at 2 AM daily, or whenever the PC is next turned on. To disable it go into Task Scheduler and search for GarminUpdater task. Right click the task then scroll to the right of the screen and select disable.

Should you desire you can go to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Logs\SelfUpdater and clean out previous updater logs. They aren't big, but if you've never cleaned them out the cumulative amount might be substantial.

Problems Connecting

Is there an issue with the latest version(s) of Garmin Express? My computer recognizes my nuvi device, but the connection is unstable and I can't install updates. It used to work flawlessly. I am not sure if I have a driver issue, a problem with the latest Garmin Express, and/or a hardware issue.

Are you using a laptop or desktop?

Some things to try.

If you are using a Windows laptop make sure “selective suspend” is disabled or the laptop is plugged in.. If enabled this will turn USB port power off to save battery. Don’t use any form of hub. Swap out the cable for another as a test.

I use one of the two front-side USB ports on a desktop computer to update my device. It worked flawlessly for years... until it didn't a few weeks ago. Garmin suggested a few things to try, but apparently my device is too old for them to be bothered.

I knew that the USB port itself was good because other devices (like an external hard disk) worked when connected to it. It wasn't the cable either, as I had the same problem when I tried different cables.

For the heck of it, I booted that exact same computer into Linux Mint. I connected my nuvi to the exact same port using the exact same cable that had been working for years. I couldn't run Garmin Express, but I found that my computer recognized the USB device and that the connection remained stable. I now suspected a Windows driver issue even more.

The weird thing is that I rebooted back into Windows, tried Garmin Express again, and found that it worked! I was able to update my map and install a few updates that stopped working due to the unstable connection. Booting to Linux must have done something, but I don't know exactly what it was.

When my computer acts funky I always reboot it.
