Looking at getting an HTC Rezound on Verizon. What are people using for good quality, secure car mounts? In particular, any suggestions for good dashboard friction/bean bag mounts?
I'm concerned that smartphones come in all shapes and sizes, and that aftermarket mounts may have poor fitting cradles/holders. Any help would be appreciated.
phone mounts
I don't think you are going to find something as universal as the Bean Bag for Garmin. Phones do come not only in slightly different widths, but thickness as well. Then there is the issue of connecting the power cord. A mount that would take all that into consideration would have to be big and bulky as well. My suggestion would be a good bluetooth device that would allow you to at least do voice dialing and perhaps read and send texts. Things you can't do if the phone is paired to you GPS.

I created my own using a garmin bean bag mount and a universal cell phone holder.
But if you don't feel like tinkering you can buy a bean bag mount with the flat mounting disk and then get a suction cup universal phone holder. For example

Helpful links, thanks.
I am currently using a vent mounted holder for the phone, and it does the job pretty well. Not as sturdy as I would like though.
If you have any photos of your creation which uses the Garmin bean bag mount, please share.
Droid X windshield cradle uses the same size ball as the Garmin
I found that the optional windshield car mount that Motorola makes for the Verizon Droid X models uses the same size ball mounting as the Garmin and the cradle for the Droid X snaps right unto any of the garmin mounting solutions.

A couple of options
For years I used just a plain bean bag that my wife made for me for my GO930. Even though I have a goose neck mount and a beanbag with disk to attach it to, I found it was a lot easier to take the bean bag when I went traveling. I also used it in my Suburban. I would place the beanbag with the GO930 on the console. I could easily see it, it was in the shade, and it was easy to store when I got somewhere and wanted it out of sight.
For my Samsung Galaxy 2, I bought the ruggedized case that has rubber corners. I find that it will sit nicely in front of the speedometer and stay in place (unless you are a very rough driver). So that is now my GPS when I travel and rent a car. Unless I know I will be in an area with minimal cell phone coverage, then I bring along the trusty GO930 and my beanbag.
I still use the gooseneck and mount if I'm going to Europe, because most cars there are standard shift and the bean bag gets in the way.

Some interesting suggestions here. I do like the idea of just getting a generic bean bag base and then just attaching a suction mount that has a secure holder for the phone. Thanks everyone.

I've used the generic vent mount holders for both phones and nuvis. I know it feels a bit flimsier than other solutions but I've made the connection a bit stronger by using twist ties. For about $5 on Ebay, not a bad solution. I like that nothing is visible on the dash. I've tried the bean bag mount and would use it in a borrowed car.
I'm using the Mountek slot mount for my iPhone
You can find it at Mountek.com I've been really happy with it so far. it inserts into the cd player slot and holds really well. Very adjustable for various different phones.

I have 2 Mountek CD slot mounts. I have one in my wifes car that has a cd player and in our other car without a cd player, the part that normally goes into the cd player slot being very slim, fits into a crease in my dash above the heater controls and holds the iPhone perfectly.

I had never heard of such a thing until now. Will check that out as another future option. Thanks.
