City Navigator North American 2012.40 Available (Feb 7/12)

Garmin has released City Navigator North America 2012.40 today.

It appears to be a phased in update with some users seeing the availability via myMaps and others not. I couldn't see it from there or the Lifetime Update program but selecting Download from the Map Updates section of myDashboard and then picking Option 2, resulted in the new maps being downloaded to my 3790.

There is a fairly new version of Garmin Communicator browser plugin. What browser are you using and could a missing plugin be an issue?

Thanks For The Suggestion

Nope, installed the latest - 4.0.1.0 and their test page says I have the latest.

I can't even get past the myGarmin login screen. I can never get to the point of even starting to download. confused

This is the screen I get:

I've tried on 3 PCs, all with the same result. Two of the PCs I have successfully used to download & install previous map updates. Go figure!?!

Waiting

I'm waiting to hear if there are any bugs in the new maps before downloading them. Anyone find anything yet?

I200 in MD?

I wonder if it has the new I200 dc outer-beltway concept toll road?

YES

That's normal, it's a matter of internet speed subject to network/server congestion

sweet

I'm going to try mine, although the installer says no new maps.

OK, Ill try it

Thanks for the good information, I'll see how it goes.

Late map notification

Alerted by POI Factory, I went to the Garmin site last week and updated my maps (option 2, I has problems with option 1).

Yesterday, I got the official Garmin "New Map" alert.

Maps Updated!

No problem updating on my desktop Windows XP computer but I tried it first on my new Windows 7 laptop and it wouldn't even recognize the GPS on the computer.

I tried both USB Ports they work with other things. Any ideas?

Thanks

Possibly

Possibly you need the Garmin USB drivers installed on your new laptop.

I have never needed to actually install them that I can recall but you may want to look in Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features and see if Garmin USB Drivers are listed there.

If they aren't you can get them from http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591

Even if the drivers are listed in the Control Panel you may want to download them and install them again. I've read that there maybe problems like your having even with the drivers installed that seem to stem from how they got there. Reinstalling the drivers by downloading them and installing seems to solve the problem.

I coincidentally was trying to update when Garmin was having a problem with their servers. confused It prevented me from logging in to myGarmin, so I couldn't even get to the Manage myMaps page.

I just waited a day or so, tried again & it worked. grin

POI

is there just a overall POI that has a little bit of everything?

making it fit

1490
I have deleted everything I can think of that I don't need but it is still telling me it won't fit.
Do I need to delete all the gmap.... files?
I did delete the biggest one and it was a little more happy, but still won't finish.
A few files like the GUPDATE.GCD file has been uploaded to it already.

thx

Strange phenomena

It appears that when I am driving on Pulasky Skyway, my 3470 thinks I am driving on the road under it ... has anybody experienced anything like that?

Are you on a route?

erweb wrote:

Anytime I've driven on this road (and others around it) my GPS has been on the correct road (very fortunate I'm sure). I think it has been the case since I am always following its directions so I am on the road it is telling me to be on.

A question for you, is your GPS on the correct road prior to the stacked roads? If you are on a route, it should be correct...

By deleting the biggest one you have deleted the major map file on your Nuvi. You shouldn't need to do this as the update process will delete this file and replace it with a new one. Deleting this file maybe the reason the update will not not finish.

The GUPDATE.GCD file is the firmware update that was probably done prior to the actual beginning of the map file download.

If you have deleted all the files you can and still don't have room for the update, your going to need to select a smaller map region (lower 49 states instead of all US/Canada for example) and/or you can put the maps on an SD card.

Download

Took me about 1.5 hrs to download through Dashboard

Hope my download time will

Hope my download time will not take that long.. Or I guess I can just download and walk away.

LOL true, at least they are trying hehe wink

question to ALL.
I chose to keep maps updater install files on PC (optional toggle in Installer Options), because I wanted to copy them over to my netbook ... I'm running windows 7 x64 and for the life of me I can't find where those files are. I found my maps data files in c:\ProgramData\Garmin, I found my unlock keys in Documents AppsData, found all the apps like POILoader, webupdater, basecamp, mapinstall, everything ... but I don't know where the painfully downloaded map installer files are ... rolleyes

any help please?

EDIT:
never mind I found the installation Setup.log in one of folders it got me directed to the installation folder path wink
it was in AppData\Local\TEMP\IMG folder doh! rolleyes

Still says I need 2012.30

I hooked up my 2460 and it only lets me download 2012.30. I used map updater and also tried webupdater (no difference). I then went to my dashboard and the same thing. I already have 2012.30 installed sad

As we

As we have said many times , don't use the lifetime map updater and also Webupdater can never be used to download maps, only software type updates.

Log on to your myGarmin.com account with the Nuvi attached to the computer. Click on myMaps and you should find your Nuvi listed there. Click on the DOWNLOAD tab to the right of your entry. On the following pages select OPTION 2 to download the maps. From there just follow the prompts and you should get 2012.40 installed on your device.

Did that but..
