Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - February 2012

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share with us the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you use it to seek out special places to go. (Like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.) Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Need new map

I think it's time to upgrade the maps on my Garmin. New streets and highways built here are causing it to go nuts!

Family event

Made a short trip south of Baltimore for e family get-together. Google nav app performed very well, no issues. Traffic coming back was a little slow due to heavy, large snow flakes. Once the precipitation switched over to rain, the visibility improved markedly. Glad to get home!

It took me to a Wine & Chocolate social

Now if it could only actually take me home, I wouldn't have to worry about my wine intake!

Just went round the block, 2000km & 3 weeks later I'm home, takes me 3 days to drive what used to drive in 3 hours. Must be getting old.
I noticed that since the last software update on the 3760 it no longer goes the fastest route, it no longer stays on the main roads, & yes I have the fastest route selected. Roll on the next update

Trip to Memphis

I'm headed out to Memphis tomorrow. smile Looking forward to some nice ribs to eat.

Short trip to Port saint Lucie

A short 300 mile round trip ride to Port Saint Lucie Flor-i-duh to location within a community we had never been to before.
Had installed 2012.4 update the day before on my 1490 and everything worked flawlessly including the bluetooth. The small JCV file also worked fine.

When I got back I downloaded and installed the large JCV file on my SD card, removed the small JCV file from the GPS and did a simulation run. That worked fine also. No complaints from this user !

My latest trip

I have a Garmin GPS-V and a Garmin 560LMT, both in the 18-wheeler. The GPS-V delivers data via serial connection for APRS -- so you can see where I am at http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=kd5xb-11&radar=**...

The 560LMT is what I actually use for routing. Last trip I went from Clovis, New Mexico to Fort Worth, then Dallas, and back. Later today I'm supposed to leave for Phoenix. Sure hope the weather cooperates, but I have my doubts!

Last Trip

My wife and I have MS S&T 2011 on lap top. She navigates while I drive.
Left Merritt, NC and drove to Savannah, GA for a week. Then to Destin, FL for another week. While there drove to Panama City and traded old 1999 motorhome for 2007 diesel pusher. Drove to New Orleans and spent a week gooning around there.
Finally came back home. We love the lap top GPS / S&T 2011 combo. She can tell me far in advance what is coming up (like how an exit is configured, or what side of the road my fuel stop is located on) so I can be better prepared for it.
Going back to Savannah this spring. Then a couple trips up to South Bend IN....THEN gonna go to the west coast in the fall.

I'm hoping to take US Route 6 from end to end, California to Massachusetts. Has anyone tried this, and if so, how long did it take?

I tried the first link, however the page isn't found (could be the network here). The second one has some good information, I'm sure it will help.

I'm guessing it will be a rather long road trip going from coast to coast, should be interesting!

Well, I couldn't find a time estimate, but I did find this:

Writer/Historian George R. Stewart commented that, "Route 6 runs uncertainly from nowhere to nowhere, scarcely to be followed from one end to the other, except by some devoted eccentric."

A trip to the grandkids

My wife and I went up to VA for the birth of our 4th grandchild. We took a different route and used our Garmin to help guide us there. Mom and baby are fine and the GPS saved us some time on our travels.

Just updated the maps a couple of months ago

and went to Roanoke, VA. Went without a hitch. Headed to Miami sometime within the next couple of months. Just waiting to see if there will be any route changes since the last time I was there a couple of years ago.

OK, But how

BillSolomon wrote:

How would you go about improving it? Keep in mind your unit only reports what it receives from a broadcaster. If the broadcaster doesn't update the information, your unit is not updated. If the traffic supplier doesn't update the information, then the station doesn't get updated. If the station doesn't...

So where would you improve the supply chain?

Two Trips...

Annual First weekend in February campout for our VW bus club at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Georgia. It's way up in the northwest corner of the state, close to the Tennessee and Alabama state lines.

Unseasonably warm this year- in shorts on Saturday. Did our usual stops at the usual thrift stores and, of course, an obligatory beer stop at Wally World.

And last week a I did a solo day trip to Heflin AL to visit an Army buddy.

Had to ignore the Nuvi's directions, routing my way made more sense than hers did.
