Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - February 2012

Good trip to east Buffalo,other than GPS forgetting all my favorites then later they all reappeared.

Drove to Kentucky over the weekend to watch grand-daughter compete in a dance competition. Got to ride in the back for a change. Played with the Nuvi 40LM in the back seat, while the old 750 was in the beanbag on the dash. Liked the junction view on to 40LM, but found mp3 Jill on the 750 to be better sounding the the wav Samantha on the 40LM. Gonna play some with wave files and see if I can make her sound a little better....

MI on a business trip. No red light camera alerts, but a person passing me on the highway at about 100 was soon caught by a police who made a u turn on the interstate to catch him. How did he know the driver was speeding from the other side of a divided highway?

Had to go visit a friend who had been in a very serious car accident. My nuvi 760 got me there stress free.

Mainly local trips this week, to and from work. Still using Waze (Android app) for most trips and still pleased with it.

Visiting the rat, the 2460 performed flawlessly with the extra traffic from the NBA playoff and the Daytona 500 crowd.

We left MI Dec. 14 with time spent in TN, LA, TX and AL. Got back to MI Feb. 22. We'll spent about a week and a half here then head for NW WA state. The nuvi spends a lot of time on. Love the interchange view and the traffic alert. Because we tow an RV we use Walmart POI file. I'm a bit disappointed with the inconsistent alerts when we get near a Walmart.

My last trip was to Florida, where we spent a week in Fort Myers visiting my wife's parents, and then drove to Palm Coast (near Daytona Beach) to visit my parents.

Interestingly, I found typos in both places: my in-laws' neighborhood has a street called "Dartington" but the GPS called it "Darlington", and my parents' neighborhood has a street "Montague" but the GPS spelled it "Montagaue"!

Went to the Golfsmith in Carle Place on Long Island to return a golf club in my 2012 Toyota Highlander SE.

Last trip was to San Jose area last weekend for the Travel Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Glad to use the nuvi 2460 as it showed a lot more junction views than the nuvi 1490.

In the heart of the Napa Valley. I used both my nuvi 760 and the Garmin USA app on my iPhone. Both worked great.

HPDE track event at Homestead Miami road track. Showed my Miata going 380 MPH at one point

We attended a funeral in a distant city.

Took a visiting friend to Monterey county, CA.

I uploaded new map of N America and tested around town. I downloaded Mapselect to my gps to make it easy to select which maps I can run on gps. It is much easy to choose the active maps.

We flew down to Huatulco MX from Winnipeg MB CA. Took along my (new) Garmin Oregon 550. Interesting to watch the icon move on the map as we flew along. As many flights no longer give position info and I like to know were I am. I had preprogrammed the threshold of rwy 36 in YWG and rwy 15 in HUX (old habits never die) so there was a track on the map.

Running some errands in a few ares of Metro Detroit that I was not real familiar with. Had the 750 going to make sure I did not have a senior moment and get lost.
