Keeping the Windmill Alive - Your last trip? - January 2012

Just got back last night from a little 400 KM trip to see a friend in the Kootenays.

After church, a few of us traveled to a new Henny Penny Chicken place. Jill & I led the convoy.

Quick trip to Bloomington. I hate to admit it, but I think I'll never use a map again. When turning mind off and following GPS, do you really know where you are at? New Years resolution: remain in the loop even though my GPS knows where I am better than I ever will.

Heading up to Warren,Ontario this week.

Silvie, our trusted Nuvi 750, guided us between Atlanta GA and Williamasburg, VA over the holidays to visit with family- our first road trip in years driving a real, sure nuff sedan rather than the '89 VW Westfalia camper, our usual long distance runner. Getting someplace in a fast hurry- what a concept!

SATNAV provided directions to the usual tourist sites thrift stores and barbecue joints that we like to frequent, and I gotta give a shoutout Sal's by Victor, a nice Italian restaurant in Willimsburg.

We're looking forward to a trip to the Canadian Maritimes this summer. In the meantime, we'll probably be getting together in the southeast with our fellow "Moonies"- other deadicated VW bus & camping nuts. First up, the so-called "Dead of Winter" campout, in Rising Fawn GA the first weekend in February.

My daughter is getting married this coming June (a tent reception on our property).
We took a ride to Quincy, MA to test wedding cake. Now those are the tests I like!

Just got back from an Arizona to Colorado trip and back. I have 2 GPS's. One in my 2012 Audi A6 and my Nuvi 1690. Sometimes one is better and other times the other one is better. For freeway info, gas prices, weather, the Audi is much better. I believe it gets its info from ATT. Also, I took a sidetrip in New Mexico to a wolf sanctuary off the beaten patch. Again the Audi GPS knew how to get there but putting in the address into the 1690 became useless. However, finding Denny's, and other places to eat was much better and easier on the Garmin 1690 due to have custom POI's in it. Now I just use both, knowing the limitations of each one.

I flew to NJ then rented car and used my GPS while in the northeast. No problems at all with Garmin 2460LMT.

Driving to Marksville next Tuesday to meet some family members and than on to Thibodaux. Will be using my 3790LMT and my wife will keep an eye on the 855.

Drove Pittsburgh to Rochester, NY in the blinding snow at 5 AM this AM. Tired now!

Just drove from Chicago to Miami and back with my Garmin 3490. A truly great product especially the HD traffic that updates every 30 seconds. Saved my butt numerous times whether it was traffic, an accident, or construction. The 3490 was dead on with the traffic alerts.

Went to visit a friend in the hills of Oakland. Used my nuvi 760 to avoid major traffic problem

Made a few trips to the goodwill this weekend. Cleaning up a little to start off the new year. Used the Google nav app - worked fine, no lockups, no traffic issues.

Drove up to Philadelphia area (near Villanova) for meeting, then visited the in-laws in Delaware.

Just running errands in the local area lately. No issues with Google nav app, and no traffic surprises.

The traffic update was a life saver on this trip, although I miss the MSN traffic service with the Gas Station prices.

back from a 7 day trip doing casinos in Louisiana

My wife hadn't been to Bisbee, a small, former mining town in southeast Arizona, so we spent a quick overnight trip there for her birthday. I threw together a small poi file of about 15 locations and off we went. Interesting place if you are into secluded artist enclaves with a funky vibe.

Kept travels today to a minimum due to the icy conditions in MD. Not bad once you get out of the parking spot. Will see what comes overnight. Overall, no issues and no complaints with the winter to date.

I've only been out to go to the hardware store and get the kids from school all week. I might be getting cabin fever.

Heading out to Chicago to attend the ASHREA show. We're driving so i will be using it for the trip up there. Hopefully I will get to see more of the functionality related to the traffic, as there is not much here; always green. This is a good thing though.

Really cold here in the east,9 degF @ 9:30am. has been that way for a week, only trip planned is to the mail box, and that takes 30mins to dress for.
