Guinea pigs wanted ;-)

If you haven't noticed, I have been doing a bunch of POI house cleaning of late. If you think I went through thousands of POI file entries one by one to make the same changes over and over, you must be on something. (Please share!) Well I created a PERL script that does the heavy lifting and I want someone to more or less tell me how I did. I plan on letting the world have it, but before I get bombarded with questions, I want someone outside my skull to have a go at it. Anyone interested? Please PM me, I'll get you the details. It's been compiled into a Windows executable, so no web site or programming knowledge required. It's not a GUI (Graphical User Interface) program like Extra_POI_Editor, but it's also not something you'll be using several times a week. You use it once to tune up the .gpx file, and after that regular maintenance should be good enough. It doesn't work on .csv files, and I don't plan on making it do that. TOO many variables there...

Thanks in advance

Bob

What sort of changes does it make?

Changes

* Change the character case in the field
* Change the character case in the <gpxx:StreetAddress> & <gpxx:City> fields
* Change abbreviated road type into their long names (Rd to Road, Ave to Avenue, etc.)
* Add/change/remove the country
* Modify the format of the phone number (xxx-xxx-xxxx, (xxx)xxx-xxxx, or xxx.xxx.xxxx)
* Append ' - <city_name>' to the POI name, to make it more unique
* Make sure mcx stays McX (McAllen, McDonalds, McMillan, etc.) in Name, City & Address fields
* Compresses multiple spaces into a single space in the <gpxx:StreetAddress> field

Basically to be used to clean up sloppy formatting. When data has been gleaned from web pages. Primarily for new POI files. A filter of sorts...

I would give it a try for you..

I would help you out if you still need help. Since i have a big file with phone numbers and everything. (Its the Offbeat file) I do try to keep it uniformed but that can be hard work. I do have a lot of streets ave and rd that are abriv. within too. Also I am sure my phone numbers could use a fixing in places.

I would li8ke to see a report what it did in case I want to revert back to something that It shouldnt have changed. Let me know!
