Getting tone instead of voice for RLC's

I just replaced my nuvi 660 with a 2555LMT. I downloaded my poi's to the new unit, but I'm getting the "tone" instead of the voice ".wav" file that is attached to the file. What did I do wrong in the setup?

Sox?

Have you installed sox.exe (assuming your computer is a PC)? Have you done all described in this faq?

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730

Maybe first I should have asked: Did you have voice alerts with your 660 and lose them with the 2555? If so, were you using mp3 or wavs with the 660? And just to be sure, your Custom POIs are loading and you can find them under Extras/CustomPOIs on the 2555, right?

Sox

Thanks for the link. Obviously, things have changed a little since I did this on my 660. I'll setup as described in the FAQ and see if that works. The voice alerts worked fine on my 660, they were loaded as wavs. The POI's all loaded properly on my 2555, it's just the voice alert that isn't working.

Hmm

Hmm, if you successfully used wav files with the 660, you either have sox.exe already on your PC--or you're using a mac and don't need sox. It's also unlikely to be a double-extension issue or bad wav files if voice alerts worked with your previous nuvi.

Is there any chance the 2555 has an alert audio checkbox that needs to be enabled? Maybe another nuvi 24xx or 25xx user can help if there's a model-specific issue here.

You also may want to look at the online Owners Manual:

http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/nuvi_2405_2505_series_OM_E...

Page 56 mentions Proximity Alerts. You can set the tone of the alert there. Additionally, p 56 implies that at least some of the models covered include a built-in proximity alert when approaching safety cameras. I wonder if the tone you're getting is from a built-in alert rather than from your POILoader-installed camera files.

Proximity alert

I'm 99% sure that I'm getting the built-in alert. I tried "un-checking" the alert box and got nothing. When I check the box I get the "beep" rather than the wav.

Progress

Well, that's some progress. I expect that's normal (a nuvi boing sound when passing a built-in safety camera location). I assume from your first post that you've downloaded and installed the two POI Factory redlight and speed csv files. Right?

I wonder what happens if you load the POI Factory's speed and red-light camera files (that's what started this thread, right?), then either run real-time or simulated drives past them--try it both ways, with the alerts checked and unchecked in the nuvi menus). If all's well, you should be hearing your wav file audio. You can first check the speed or redlight POIs to find one nearby that's listed by touching WhereTo/Extras/CustomPOIs, then choosing either redlight or speed. Try running a route past (or even to) one of these. That's where the wav audio should be giving you quarter-mile (I think) advance warnings through your wav file rather than the nuvi's boing sound.

Another good test would be to download another POI Factory POI file (I'll suggest Rest Areas Combined) plus an associated wav and bmp file. Load these with POI Loader in Manual Mode, telling it to use alerts and set an alert distance--say 10,000 feet). Then try creating a route along an interstate highway and see if you get the wav audio alert a mile before the rest area exit. This test might indicate whether your issue is unique to safety cameras or to all POI/wav/bmp selections.

3490LMT

I'm about to upgrade from my 765T to the 3490LMT. I have a feeling I maybe in the same boat as Joe F. with that unit. I'll leave feedback here once I get the unit and try it out after loading in the POI's.

If you have the sox.exe in

If you have the sox.exe in the same folder as the poiloader is located and the files are all named the same except for the extensions. And make sure no double extensions the voice alerts should work.

Joe F, no pressure now...but you've got folks counting on you to offer successful results wink

Exactly!!

Can you please advise the .wav file you used when you created the POI file. There are six availble for Redlight Cameras at POI Factory.

Solved!

I guess I got lazy and thought I knew what I was doing after loading POI's on my 660 so many times. I forgot that the 660 was an mp3 machine. The 2555 obviously isn't. I double checked my POI folder and saw that my "wav" files were actually "mp3" files. Once I converted the files to wav, it worked like a champ. Thanks to everyone for all the help.

Well done, sir!

One more thing...

I actually read the FAQ's this time and didn't find the answer...

After I got it to work (POI's were loaded on the device), I decided I wanted them on the card to save space. Now I don't see them anymore, and when I ran the sim route I get nothing. Is there a trick to putting them on the card?

.

Just change the destination of the file in POI Loader (on the drop down box) to the card. Make sure it's formatted to FAT 32.

POI Loader issue

It's an issue with the latest POI Loader version. When loading to SD cards, POI Loader incorrectly gives the created file a .poi extension rather than the needed .gpi extension.

Just bring up the SD card in your computer and change the file extension to gpi and your POIs should work again.

One other thing...

I actually went back to the tone on the RLC's and speed cams, and like it better.

We have so many of them here, poor old Jill was constantly announcing them. The bong sound reminds me to pay attention at those intersections, and doesn't override the routing directions.

Got it

Outstanding! I just looked at the card, and the file is a .poi I'll change it. Thanks all!

Good Job

Glad you got it sorted out, changing it to .gpi should certainly fix it.

On a side note, whnenevr I create a POI I always send it my computer and save it to my collection of POI files, serves two purposes, I always have a backup and avoid the quirks in POI Loader 2.70.

I use Jill as my chosen voice, but for POI files such as Redlight cameras or police check points, I use a male voice. This way when I hear a male voice I know danger is lurking.

Just be carefull in sending to the card

Since version 2.7.0 does not name the file correctly when you send an updated file it will not over wright the old one. You will have 2 files on the card. I just delete the one and rename the new ones extension.

I too was surprised they

I too was surprised they removed the mp3 support as native, requiring that SOX plug-in.
