Need help with my 1490 seeing the SD card POIs

I have been trying to add POIs to my 1490 but didn't have enough space for all of them. Therefore I tried to use the SD card and haven't been able to get anywhere with that idea. I can use the POI loader program and get the POIs on the Sd but the garmin does not recognize the SD card files. Am I missing something?

Look at the poi file on the SD card and make sure it has a gpi extension. If not change it. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/34543

You may want to look at this for loading custom pois. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721

Thanks, that solved the problem.

I also found that after deleting unwanted files from the GPS main memory I am able to get all my POIs on the device.

Is there an advantage one way or the other of having the custom POIs in memory or on the SD card?

A while ago when I tried to place POIs on SD card, it kept on prompting me to import them to the memory. That became a nuisance and I gave up on it. I wonder whether they changed the firmware since then to overcome this.

Thats a question I asked of Garmin

and the answer I got is "thats a great idea, we should look at it for future units". I had to explain to them it was already on units and you took it off.

I just deal with it because I like them on the card.

Nope, the prompt is there. I can't believe that Garmin would let a annoying thing like that happen. How amature!

POI's on SD Card

I keep all my poi's on my sd card. The few seconds that it take to ignore the prompt is not worth worring about. It takes longer to get a sat lock and load the trip. Just ignore it.
