Garmin 275T with latest fw does not see new updated POI on SD

Hi,

I ran into a dumb problem with my Garmin 275T. It was recently updated to latest firmware. I usually load POI files to SD card and then accept installing them to unit when it asks for it.

Never had a problem with it and it was detecting updated POI file on the SD card every time I made a change to it ... except for recently. it no longer asks me to install new POI files (in case the card gets removed) nor it sees them at all ...

how do I make it re-load the POI files or even see the SD card contents. what should I do with it?
using latest POI Loader on a PC.

thanks!

Although

Although it doesn't solve your problem, if there is one, with the SD card, you can always use POIloader to load the POIs directly to the 275. You don't need to load them to an SD card first, especially if your going to "accept installing them to the unit" anyway.

all right. I was able to

all right. I was able to update POIs directly on the unit with POI Loader, but still it doesn't see new POIs on the SD card ... not sure if it actually sees the SD card at all... good thing I have just enough space for maps of 2 continents and my POI files (after deleting some unneeded voice files and such).

hard resetted the unit and still the same. I think it doesn't read the SD card anymore...

.

yeah I am aware. initially I ran out of space after latest US maps update and moved all POIs to SD card. however I hated being annoyed with million sof questions at every start of the unit regarding loading the POIs, so eventually I deleted some files and started loading the POI again to unit itself (via SD however, maybe to get used to it in case lol).

now it seems the unit doesn't see the SD card anymore at all... weird ...

To check

To check the SD card, assuming there are files on it and it's installed in your Nuvi, just connect the GPS to your computer and it should show both the Nuvi drive and the SD card under My Computer. If the SD card doesn't appear then it maybe history.

You can of course always check the card by using it in another device or computer to see it it's recognized.

that works as usual. I can see SD card on PC, move files, even load POI to it and that is while the SD card is inside Garmin device (connected to PC via USB cable) ... so I don't understand why it doesn't want to read POI file from it upon booting up?

the only explanation so far seems like the recent firmware update read the SD card only once and never any more. I did however used an option to Install files to device with a check mark Don't ask again haha, but shouldn't it ask again if the file gets changed???

Just where on the SD is the POI file? Unless you are using one of the newer POI Loader programs, the file has to be in the Garmin/POI folder. The newer loaders create the folder structure where the older ones (2.4.x) required you to manually create them.

POIs on SD card

My 265WT is doing the same thing since the latest update. Just like you, I can connect my nuvi to my PC and read the card in it, load POIs to it, but the nuvi doesn't recognize an updated POI file on the SD card and I can't access the file from the muvi menu. I haven't contacted Garmin about the issue, but maybe I will now that I know I'm not the only one. I was just going to wait for the next software upgrade.

thanks

thanks

thanks

thanks man. I feel much better now that I know others ran into same issues. it must be the most recent fw update doing it.
hopefully they release a patch soon.

Thanks but

Same issue but what's the big deal loading the POI directly on the Nuvi?

Is this a bug or a new "feature". This forum doesn't seem to have the smilie things to attach to a post.

;-)

wink

The issue

The deal is if the nuvi doesn't have enough memory for the POIs. Not an issue for me, but I did prefer to keep my POIs on the SD card as it was easier to update by plugging the card directly into my notebook PC.

installed software update from mygarmin dashboard, same issue

while lurking around MyGarmin Dashboard today I noticed it says there is some software update for my device (WebUpdater said I was up to date a minute before), so I installed it.

still no luck with POI not being loaded from SD card.

anybody figured out workaround on how to use POIs from SD card yet?

it's becoming a burning problem for me as I deleted pretty much all unneeded files by now from nuvi 275 and the last things I simply need to run it LOL laugh out loud

that's the only way I was able to fit in there the latest 2012.30 US map update while storing older EU maps and my POI files ...

by next US map update I will be out of options and I guess will have to move the EU map to SD card in order to keep POIs on the unit's internal memory.

hopefully my 275 will read the supplemental map off it ... if not I will have to swap maps manually as needed.

PoiLoader 2.7.0 ?

If you are using the latest poiloader it has an issue with file extensions when sending to memory card on device. Look for .poi extension. The .poi extension can be canged to .gpi and will then work.

Please look at this link. It explains it all

wow! thank you, I will try changing it to .gpi!!! in fact I know that it was .poi as I checked it last night. this must be (latest POI Loader) causing the problem in first place smile

It needs to be fixed

And when I asked Garmin when they were going to fix that version....this is the answer.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Unfortunately, we are not told when updates will be released. I apologize for the inconvenience.

PoiLoader needs fixing for sure

yeah, seems, that since they know about it, root cause of problem will be fixed in the next update of POIloader... pity they are so reluctant in actually releasing the patched version, kinda weird if you ask me...
