I'm in the market for a new GPS for my car/bike. I am not able to buy a Zumo so that is out. I am looking at the new 2455 and 2555. Anyone have any experience with them? Any suggestions? I am not really looking for Bluetooth or any of those bells and whistle. I would like to be able to create routes on Google or Mapquest and download them to the unit.
All help is greatly appreciated.
Why not the Zumo
I am guessing the Zumo is out becuase of the Price?
I will offer this, I would not consider any other GPS than one designed for the motorcycle. Asside from the waterproof aspect, the vibration is my biggest concern. I have a wide glide that vibrates a lot at the end of the handlebars (normal harley mount) but was able to get a mount at the base of the handle bars. I do not beleive any other GPS (Garmin- I know nothing about others) would be able to handle the conditions. As for the price, it is expensive. Look for a deal, either through Harley or somewhere else. I bought mine when my local dealership (Virginia Beach) did a food charity run. Bring in a canned good and recieve 30% off any one item. They do another run throughout the year that you can draw for up to 50% off. There are good deals out there but you have to look and sometimes wait.
Good Luck

Price Yep
Yeah, Zumo out because of price. I have had great luck for the past 5 years with my 550 and a plastic zip sandwich bag in all kinds of weather.
In really bad weather I just put it in the trunk of my Gold Wing. My car and truck are the primary uses tho. I usually only use the GPS on the bike after I have gone out and gotten myself "lost" on back roads. Then I turn it on and push "Go Home."

As a replacement GPS

You might want to look at the TomTom XXL540 units. They have officially been replaced with later models, but can still be found new if you look, and the XXL540TM versions cost very little more than the basic XXL540 version. (The "T" indicates lifetime traffic and the "M" indicates lifetime maps.)
The XXL540 does not have Bluetooth capability or LIVE services but many of us like it better than the newer models for several reasons.
One thing that you may find appealing is that there is a free third-party program called TYRE that lets you plan a route on your computer and download it to the GPS. It is written by a motorcycle rider, so I have seen a number of favorable comments about it on the web by riders. To find out more about TYRE, Google is your friend.
On the negative side, the XXL540 is not weatherproof, so some kind of protective mount would probably be needed on a bike.

Older units safer for routes
I do not know anything about the 2xxx series but if you want to be able to do routes, you may want an older model - like I use. Last I looked you could get a 765t for a little over $100. It has bluetooth and will play MP3 files but the reason I suggest it for your application is the low price and fact that I know it handles routes well. BaseCamp works best for me (and it is free from Garmin). GPX converter on a Google map will work, at least for simple routes. Ditto MapSource. Many more recent Garmins do not really support routes. They might seem to but they are talking about a route you create on the GPS, not one you import. Garmin seems to have phased out support for routes (and MP3 players).

Thanks
everyone. Gonna go to Best Buy tomorrow and eyeball some of these.

2455
Saw the 2455LMT at Target Sunday. Unfortunately no help around to actually talk about it. $199. Seems to be the going rate except for Garmin's site.
