Garmin 3490LMT

I'm using POI Loader v.2.5.4 with my 765T. I'm about to buy the 3490LMT. So I now need to use POI Loader v.2.7.0 for that unit?

AFAIK it doesn't make any difference which version of POILoader you use. I suspect it may be an issue with Nick's procedure but I can't test that as I don't have that unit.

Also, I'm wondering if the 3490LMT will now display the RLC icon on the map vs. the way the 765T does which displays the whole name of the intersection in a dialog box (i.e.: RLC- Broadway & 96th Street).

I see you've had this unit for almost two months now. How do you like it (as I'm considering buying it next week)?

The HD traffic on the 3490LMT is a keeper. I drove from Chicago to Orlando and it was awesome at notifying me about traffic, accidents, construction and everything else. AWESOME product. I've been using it in Orlando for the last week and it has helped me with the I4 backups on all occasions. Best traffic that Garmin offers. VERY accurate

That's good to hear. Just out of curiosity, did you load up the RLC POI's from this site? If so, did they work OK?

I tried establishing a route from Cleveland Ohio to an address in California.

The GPS said it was to far and gave no route.

Any ideas other than selecting a city in California?

I'd do a hard reset on that puppy, and try again.

Using the POILoader version 2.7, as long as you save the file to your PC, the app works fine it creates the .gpi extension but if you try to save it to your SD card you receive a .poi extension and even though I was able to rename the extension, and the unit on most cases it recognized the data file, the alerts did not work, voice or just normal alerts. So what I have been doing now is saving the file to my desktop with 2.7 and then copying the file to my sd card and everything seems to work fine now. I get the voice and alerts.

I'm so glad I disabled the auto-updates for POI Loader. I too, could be doing twice the work to load custom POI's...

I use all the POI's from this site and they work perfectly on the 3490.

I just returned from CES in Vegas and checked out the 3590, definitely bigger but was glad to hear that my 3490 with the software d/l enables my unit to receive the smartlink services.
Smartphone Link currently works with all Bluetooth®-enabled 2012 Garmin navigators, including nüvi 2475LT, 2495LMT, 2595LMT, 3490LMT and 3590LMT. All of these nüvi models, except the nüvi 3590LMT, require a software update (version 4.40 or later) available at: www.garmin.com/myDashboard.

Garmin Smartphone Link is available at no cost in the Android Market and includes several free Garmin Live Services as well as premium subscription services.

I too was at CES and spoke with the product specialist for the 3490LMT and indicated the issues regarding Safe Texting not working and no clear button for InstaSearch. He said that due to legal and/or safety issues, the Safe Texting feature is going to be pulled. As for not being able to clear past InstaSearch results, he didn't realize there wasn't an option in the UI to get rid of it and he will be going back to the developers to write a patch update to include one to clear it out. I will email him all the details this week for the fix.

As for the 3590LMT, I found the screen to be a bit washed out and the colors not as deep as the 3490LMT probably because they kept the same specs as the 3490LMT on a bigger screen. I think they should have up'd the resolution on that unit to compensate for the larger screen size. I wasn't to happy that it was about 50% thicker too so I think I'll stick with my 3490LMT.

I agree with you, I am sticking with the 3490. I so far purchased 2 of the smartphone features, weather for 4.99 and picture for 9.99, is is a yearly price. I have been thinking about the traffic one but I am hoping someone who has already purchased it would comment on it and let me know if it is worth the $20 yearly price.

Pick up INRIX traffic off the market place. It's free and accurate and is almost real time. It's the feed a lot of media outlets use for their on-air reporting.

I also use the Inrix traffic app on my Droid X and works well and no subscriptions necessary.

I love the FREE HD traffic on the 3490. I wouldn't pay for the traffic when you have several free options including Inrix and Traffic.com on the Iphone or other smartphones.

I DL'd it last night for my droid, and was surprised to see my area show up in green! I haven't had a chance to play with it yet, but was looking at the Vancouver area to check. I'll have to do a side-by-side next time I'm on the coast.

I hope Garminn updates Firmware for the 3790 to allow it to take advantage of the SmartPhone Link too.

After all, they would still make money form the premium subscriptions.

After running POILoader on my 3490lmt and hooking it up to my vehicle, I went to custom poi and I noticed that my individual folders were missing, I see several of my poi's but they seem to be all over the place and very difficult to find what I was looking for. Anyone know what happen to my folders. What am I missing, can you not sort by folders no more?

Any info when Garmin is going to correct this problem. I noticed some of those have contacted Garmin about this and wonder what their response was. I plan also to call them soon

Just updated to the new Version 4.0 of Inrix. The first thing I always look at is the list of incidents (third button from the left at the bottom) to read the list of traffic problems. This feature was removed in 4.0! I deleted the app and reinstalled the previous version form iTunes.

It has been almost a month, any more info if Garmin is going to correct this folder issue, I hate it the way it displays my poi's now.

Finally figured out why my custom alert for the 3490 custom POI does not work. The unit only takes wav file and when you convert sound file, it must be mono and 44.1khz in regular wav container. Otherwise it will sound the default sound.
