This traffic is worse than Beijing...
My 1490 thought there was a 40,074 km (24,901 mi) traffic jam here in Toronto. I didn't want to go around the world to go home
Here's a screenshot: http://goo.gl/RVBrJ

Traffic is something you take with a grain of salt. It should've been worked out by Navteq and Clear Channel by now.
Using Android Based GPS.The above post and my sig reflects my own opinions, expressed for the purpose of informing or inspiring, not commanding. Naturally, you are free to reject or embrace whatever you read.
That is very funny...
I wouldn't want to take that route hahaha...
Did you ask for a detour?,
Did you ask for a detour?, Ha! ha!
.
Maybe it thought I was Ferdinand Magellan?

xm
I've found Garmin to be very inaccurate, so LMT is really meaningless. The idea of traffic, is avoidance which adds up to time savings. Garmin has failed many times. Got a new car with XM traffic, which is always dead on.
Slow Traffic
Since I got my traffic function working, yesterday was the first it appeared on the screen for my entire trip. At several stages when T touched the icon it says "traffic is up to date" I wasn't driving in areas I have not been driving.
One strange thing I noticed when i went to update the software, I only saw the box for
"Database for FM Traffic Providers" I was looking for another box with traffic update-
"Firmware Update for GTMxxx Trafic Receiver"
I didn't see that box as shown in the tutorial.
This was for my 1490t. Is it like that for the 1490t? Any comment on this missing box?

Traffic settings
I haven't checked this out thoroughly, but I assume that even if I check the "avoid traffic" box in settings on my nuvi, it will not work unless I have a paid subscription. Is that correct?

providers are slow
It looks like quality vary from place to place. Probably it had to do with quality of updates in traffic data. If provider is putting more effort into keeping data accurate than it works better. If they don't care than you have warnings like in first post.
But it will get scary when Garmin will make mandatory automatic detours in case of heavy traffic. Then you can be forced to go back home through Hawaii
LOL
That screenshot cracked me up. Way to go Garmin!
traffic icon
my traffic icon does not work. it shows green and I can be sitting in bumoer to bumper traffic so I don't expect to "avoid traffic" if it doesn't recognize traffic.
Getting better
Traffic data keeps getting better. At least that's a positive. More than few times it saved me from major traffic jams.
LOL!
haha LOL! I wouldn't want to take that detour either hehehe
so funny

Traffic
I bet if you did a 180 degree turn you would have been there in no time.

Traffic on 1490T
Mine worked flawlessly for over a year and a half, until I went to Phoenix, AZ a couple months ago. I kept getting "Update traffic databases" messages whenever I started my GPS.
Went through all the available updates, GPS and traffic related and I still got the message. Drove from Phoenix back to Detroit, MI -- only in Detroit the next day did traffic come back.
Any thoughts?
Good One @ Dudlee
