Map icons (should I also see the name?)

I am new to the GPS world and just got a Garmin 1300LMT. Lots of fun, lets me explore my neighborhood without getting lost, but I'm confused about one thing. When I zoom in on the map, icons appear for restaurants, gas stations, etc. If I touch one I get an arrow, but even when it is right on top of the icon, it doesn't tell me what the icon is. Should I see the name of the restaurant, etc.?

Never tried it before

Never tried it before but I just did with my 765T. Of course, I have to zoom in to 200 ft to see icons, but when I do see them, I can find out what is beneath the icon. I touch it and an arrow appears. If I wait a couple of seconds I get a little bubble that tells me the name of the icon.

Not on mine. It just asks if

Not on mine. It just asks if I want to go there or save the location.

Answer to your question

If you need to find out what restaurants are nearby, you have to go into "Where To", select "Points of Interest", then "Restaurants". From there you can select a particular type of food (Asian, Fast, etc.) or select "All Restaurants" and a list of the 50 nearest restaurants of that type will pop up in a list.

The icons on the map screen of a 1300 do not provide any additional information. What you do get is the opportunity to set what you tap on as an endpoint to a route (start or end point in simulation mode).

Thanks. It doesn't seem very

Thanks. It doesn't seem very useful to have to zoom in so much and end your route on an unknown icon. Not that I use it (or see any use for it). My little black dots DO show up with information, though, which is useful since I never remember what I put in.

Change it

Edit the POI and change the symbol.

Odd

That doesn't work too well with the built-in POIs, which is what Damascus is talking about. But now that you mention it, that is rather odd. POIs that we add will show information yet the built-in POIs don't.

Oops

Thanks bud for the correction.

Yes, it's only custom POI'ss that you can change. And, it is odd that you can only see those.
