City Navigator NT 2012.20 released

So far Europe version only. But North America should show soon.

Page 1>>

Not Necessarily

Last time around, the 2012.10 update for Europe came about a full two weeks ahead of North America. We'll see.

City Navigator NT 2012.20 Released

Thanks for the tip. If North America is now or two weeks from now, I will try to be ready. It still bugs me a little that Google Maps Navigation seems to be more current than City Navigator, but what do you do?

Same Here

Just got the 1490LMT and updated a few weeks ago. Now to get ready and go through it again.

Approximately the release

Approximately the release date for North America map 2012.20?

Release Date

There's never an official release date. My guess would be somewhere around August 10th, but that's just my guess.

Sorry, but I don't know. Europe version showed on my account as ready for download so I started this topic. But last time, as rame1012 said, it was two weeks after EU update that NA version was ready for download.

Thanks for the heads up, I

Thanks for the heads up, I will be checking daily for the upgrade.

Got excited for no reason

Damn title is misleading ... OP should put which country it was for .. no worries .. will wait until NA is released.

They will still be a year

They will still be a year behind.

City Navigator NT 2012.20 just in time

I've used my new 3790T for the first time just a week ago, and I were wondering if It would be better to wait some more time for the free nuMaps Guarantee because I have not yet purchased the nuMaps lifetime for it, and I'm thinking not to buy it in short.

And here it is, just in time. Thanx for the advice.

I have the lifetime one for the 205, and I think it should go with the account in myGarmin, not with the device, as for example do the Apple people with their software...

Remember you only have 30

Remember you only have 30 days from the first day you turned the GPS on to up date the maps to the latest version.

Today is a gift, that's why they call it the present...

Incorrect!

You have 90 days now, the last that was reported.

Yeah, I even called Garmin to see if the 2012.20 Europe maps had actually been released, and the Garmin representative I spoke to said that the Europe maps had in fact not yet been released. So, has anyone actually downloaded the 2012.20 Europe maps?

You still have a two update left

You still have a two update left. garmin publishes updated map files 4 times a year.roughly 3 month intervals.

Actually

2012.20 Europe was released for download on Wednesday July 20th. I know a number of people with Nuvi models that hold both NA and Europe maps (eg Nuvi 775) and they have 2012.20 Europe loaded.

The only thing that's for sure is that you get a max of 4 updates if you have lifetime maps. Where does it say they only publish map updates 4 times a year? Your guessing. At the end of april i put on 2011.40. That's 3 days after I bought it. Not even a month later I put on 2012.10. Some one here would know where we stand this year as far as updates go, I didn't keep my 765t files, otherwise I could check.
Still don't know why they they called it 2012.

Shirke is not guessing, if you look at the history of Garmin's release dates there are 4 a year roughly 3 months apart. I can't find the post that someone has made regarding the dates, but they have the history back to 2008.

It sounds like you purchased a unit that was sitting on the shelf for some time with an old map, then you upgraded a few days prior to another map update.

Don't confuse Garmin's map release dates with the dates you updated the map as they are not the same.

There was a list of the dates that maps were released previously, but I'll be darned if I can find it now.

I think it should be a sticky in the FAQ's.

Thanks for the link, I was going nuts trying to find it. I don't recall the dates of 2011.40 and 2012.10, but 2012.20 should be available soon.

Overall, about 3 months apart, and 4 a year is fairly consistent.

I might be old but not senile...yet
Looking at my jcv file on my first back up, i would say it came with 2011.30. 2011.40 jcv is larger. Its all historical. Historically speaking i'm gonna get up tomorrow and go to work. History will change in 2 1/2 years, I won't be getting up to go to work. I'll be retired.

I wonder if the update is

I wonder if the update is significant.

Porbably Not...

Evilmonkey wrote:

Considering the map updates several times a year, and 99% plus of the road does not change.

Unless there is a new road near or around the route you pass by or use every day, you most likely will not see the difference.

Well the auto updater actually WORKS !

I'm in Europe, I have the lifetime subscription, and I recently heard of - and installed the new auto updater. One more fantastic piece of info gathered at this here water hole, by the way.

And I just noticed the download was taking place !

So I'm happy - and I'll soon be able to see if one of the Navteq bug reports I had filed, was indeed taken in consideration. I'll let you know.

It seems to be human nature... we crab about the updates not being accurate, but we are on pins and needles awaiting the NEXT update grin

My friend got a 255 two years ago but didn't go for the updates and he thought they were too expensive. He finally got a Lifetime subscription earlier this year for a trip down south and downloaded his first update. Now he is bugging me about the next one! He's probably grinding his teeth as he reads this message razz

thanks

thanks

Hoping for more speed limits in Canada

With the last update, my Garmin was listing speed limits on some of the highways. I hope the next map will include more of them.

Bugs

cameotabby wrote:

Unfortunately that 1% can sometimes be annoying. Garmin introduced a bug in the map of my area in 2011.40 that routes be down a dead-end street thinking it was a through street. It has been reported and will be fixed eventually. But I suspect it probably happens in other places to. Roads may not be changing but mistakes are getting made and ultimately have to be fixed.

Within the year, if not sooner, I-86/NY-17 around Parksville, NY will be undergoing a major rerouting. Construction is currently underway. That route will definitely require a map update in order to work correctly otherwise your GPS will show you driving in free space on the side of a mountain!

--
I support the right to keep and arm bears.

@Aardvark

From what I saw so far road updates works with one simple rule: bigger road - sooner on map. So highways will be probably on map even before they will be ready to use. Garmin has some sort of system that make it possible to set date from which road is considered by gps as ready to use. Before this date it is simply ignored during routing.

Bigger problem is with smaller roads, not mention tiny roads in new subdivisions. Those may be not updated for years. Once when I was looking for some address in fairly new (2 years old) subdivision there was no new internal roads on map and those that were present were displaced on map for about 200-300 yards. Very annoying. It was like that for 3 times I was there in 3 years, with a few map updates from Garmin in meantime.

Submitted Updates

Adding to the buzz ... I'm hoping for 3 local fixes I sent in to be included in the update.

Now in wait mode...

Got my new (refurbished) 765t, that shipped with 2011.10. Looking forward to the update! It is true that there are 90 days now for the free update. I have until October 14, 2011 to get it. And yes, it is human nature.....I WANT IT NOW!!! razz

I love my...

765t, what a great little GPS. I use it even though I don't really need it. This September, I'll be putting it through it's paces though...traveling most of New England.

My dear wife of 40 plus years says we're touring the eastcoast to see the leaves change colors, I say we're going to see dead leaves, I suppose we're both correct in one sense or another.

Estimated date for 2012.20

Estimated date for 2012.20 seems to be Aug 3, 2011 (Wednesday).. No confirmations..

Changing colors...

Seeing the leaves change colors is still a special treat for my wife and I, as we in So Cal dont get to see many trees change to yellow, orange, and red. Maybe that would change if we saw them every year.

Many of our trees here go straight to brown and then promptly fall off, usually it all happens during what we call Fire Season. (It is actually a real season out here like spring and fall...HAHA!)

Hope you have a great trip to NE with the new update that should be out soon!

Northern Virginia "Off-Roading"

Northern Virginia is in a similar boat. They're adding new lanes to the right on I-495 in order to convert the original lanes into HOT lanes. In order to do this, they have redone all of the on and off ramps. So with map update 2012.10 and before, GPS will claim I'm either off-road or I'm driving on an on or off ramp even though I'm actually on a new lane on the freeway.

Since construction is expected to continue for a couple of years, I suppose GPS will never be right until then.
