Maybe... I feel like I just updated mine not too long ago. Wasn't there some update to the last map pack?

2011.31

Yes, there was an update to the North American maps (and European maps) due to some bugs. The North American maps only required an update if you did not use English on your device.

Not for another month

It looks like 3 month update periods and if the last one was Nov. 11, 2010, then it could mid February for the next update.

No, I think we should see it sometime soon. If you look at the update history from the previous years, 2011.3 always runs a little behind and is released in November, and even though that happens, 2011.4 is still released in January.

I think it will be late February since the last one was behind

so the new one should be behind too.

Soon come....

Time be time. Soon come, Mon. Take it like they do in the islands. The update will be available when it's available. No sense putting any effort into wondering when it will happen.

Where to find when newest map is available

Where can we find when the newest map is available? I have my one free map update that i need to do soon or lose it and i would like to get the newest map.

Check here

There is no official or unofficial site listing availability dates in advance. You will find that the POI Factory will have someone post a message announcing its arrival essentially on the day it's offered.

In general, many folks here offer their thoughts on when the next map will come out and most are within a couple week window of when it really does arrive. My guess is the 2nd week of February, for whatever my guess is worth.

When does your window end and what map version do you have now? What are your thoughts on buying a numaps lifetime subscription? It's worthwhile to see how a map update goes (computer issues, broadband speed issues, etc.) with a free update before springing for a lifetime update at $70-ish but don't wait to long and lose your free update. If you're willing to wait until the last minute, you could hold off and update 2-3 days before your window closes--unless the new 2011.40 map comes out earlier.

Not too excited about map updates anymore

Up to about a year ago, I was very excited to get these NuMap map updates because a lot of highway ramps in my area and near my kids college were added or moved. Also, before that, the I355 tollway extension (which I now often take) was finished, and it took two or three map updates for it to show up. Now that the latest map is completely caught up with all the changes I care about, I don't watch for updates as much -- seems like just recently the map was updated.

I have the 2011-10 map, I

I have the 2011-10 map, I have until feb 5 to get my free update. I will probably wait till the 1st of feb if no one doesnt post here that the new maps are out. I dont want to wait til the last day because I had a heck of a time getting stuff off Garmins web site the other day, do they always have that slow of server?

I will more than likely go with the lifetime updates - was just waiting for awhile to see if the price comes down a little and see if i have any money left after uncle sam gets done with me!

Excellent plan

An excellent plan. I've not had issues with Garmin's server speed. I do remember reading here from others that a few days after the past new map came out (about the time most folks decided to update) there was a 1-2 day period of really slow downloads with a gazillion folks utilizing their lifetime update at the same time.

Re: Map Update Soon

Looks like it hasn't happened this week. The history is pretty consistent over the last two years, so maybe next week.

Old maps can be fun....

This was really funny for me when traveling at highway speeds over a 12-mile stretch of those "fields", because the unit snaps to the nearest road ... Jill would say "recalculating", then give instructions, then snap again ... "recalculating" ....

Installing maps in the SD Card

I just downloaded the Mexico NT 2011 and would like to use it from the SD card. Where can I get directions as to how to install it. Thank you.

I would wait until at least February 3, simply because
Garmin normally releases their map updates on a wedesnday or a thursday (and Feb. 3 is a thursday).

It's called climate change

Global warming is a misnomer for man-made climate change. 99% of real scientists agree that this is happening. The average earth temperature in 2010 was the warmest it has ever been in the time of recorded measurements. Greenland has had an early return from their 24 hour darkness due to less glacial ice blocking the angle of the sun. Russian thieves are gathering up mammoth tusks that have been buried in the tundra since the time these mammals walked the planet.

Jill? We've always called her Miss Nuvi: "Miss Nuvi knows what to do", we tell each other. To Miss Nuvi: "Miss Nuvi, I'm not going to do that", "Miss Nuvi, please recalculate." "Thank you, Miss Nuvi."

Does anyone know of an app that would add to the things she says to give her a little edge? For example, if you miss a turn, she ordinarily says "recalcualting." It would be fun to hear things like, "Oh, so you think you know better than me? Fine, I'll recalculate." or like "Did you not hear what I said? Fine, I'll recalculate." and perhsps, "OH, you are a good instruction follower."

When Does Free Update Expire

I think I saw that you have 60 days for new Garmin to get free update. But when does the 60 days start? I received my nuvi around Dec 10th. Hooked it up to computer around the 15th but havn't registered yet. Gave it to wife for Christmas. So what date does the 60 day period begin?

it starts

it starts from the time it first acquires satellite signal.

while driving

"within 60 days of first acquiring satellites while driving with your device" per Garmin.

It would not start the count if you aquire the signals while you are sitting in your living room.

Two Theories

I have two theories as to the delay:

1) There are some substantial changes coming that are taking time to integrate into the Garmin update.

or more likely

2) The next release is timed from the release of 2011.31 not 2011.30. Unfortunately I did not keep a note for when the 2011.31 update was released.
