A New Garmin

I was thinking this evening about the next Garmin that I would like to see. I already have a Garmin Street Pilot 2730, but I really like some of the features of the Garmin Nuvi 650/660 line. This is essentially what I would like:
-wide screen like Nuvi 650/660
-rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery like the Nuvi
-sensitive SiRF chip
-multiple destination routing like the 2730
-XM capability like the 2730 (or option like the 2820)
-house number approximation when driving
You won't get these in a Nuvi
-multiple destination routing like the 2730
-XM capability like the 2730 (or option like the 2820)
-house number approximation when driving
But I really like my 660...bluetooth & wide screen compared to my previous 350 are worth it.
The multiple destination thing you can handle with custom POIs...plan your trip, and each overnight stop is a POI, and places along the way can be inserted as a VIA on the fly, one at a time.
XM: I have my music collection burned to MP3 and on my Nuvi on an SD card. And I haven't found a compelling reason to subscribe to XM.
And the house number thing...I've never seen it in action so I don't know if I'd like it or not. I suppose if I were used to having it, and it were not there in a new unit, I suppose I'd miss it...but get used to it in time

Nuvi 360
I'm happy with my Nuvi 360. It has bluetooth/picture viewer/mp3, etc. And it's still compact enough. I was checking out those widescreens. Any wider and it'll block your view while driving. Just bought and hooked up an aux input unit (USA SPEC DF-TOY) last night. Connected the Nuvi 360 to it & played my mp3 through it. Works great.
The Sounds is clean and crisp, unlike the Belkin fm transmitter I had a few weeks back. I have a 2 GB SD card I use for music, pics and POI's. I'm fixin' to buy an external mic for the bluetooth phone. I'll be set! And the price waa'nt to bad either. . . $399.
Aux Inputs
I'll second that. Well worth it.
External Mic: I found a Garmin branded one at my local Best Buy. My test-call 'victims' likened the sound from it combined with audio via the Aux Input to be no worse than any typical cell phone call in a moving vehicle.

Love my 660. Just wish I
Love my 660. Just wish I could plan my own route and import it. And/or set waypoints along a route, save the route, and back track that saved route for a return trip. That is the only function of significant value that I miss in the 660.

You can insert one via
In the Nuvis, with an active route - go back to 'where to' and select a place, and you'll get asked if you want to insert it as a via...then, after you've hit that via, you could insert another between where you are, and your destination as many times as you want, one at a time....Kind of a pain, but it works.

Routing Features
I too liked the much more robust routing features that I had in my 2720. However, having a battery enabled unit that works GREAT when traveling on airplanes, with Bluetooth capability, makes my 660 a better choice - for now.
My feature wish list includes the:
1. Waypoint capabilities of the StreetPilot 27xx units (multi-stop route optimization)
2. XM weather
3. Dead Reconing (like the 7500
4. All current Nuvi 660 features (Bluetooth, SIRF, Battery enabled, TTS, etc.)
But you know, if Garmin marketed a unit with all the features that people wanted, they would not have a market for follow-on purchases. I for one am on my fourth automotive GPS.

His Doghouse Too
How about
adding a new full size screen showing your speed (digital) that would automatically switch to normal map screen when approaching a turn or destination. Distance of switching dependent on moving speed !
