Bear Responsibility?

As a poi contributor, it just occurred to me if I should bear responsibility should some particular coordinates be kind of way off the mark. As any other contributor knows, it would be almost impossible to verify each and every location, specially if we're talking about hundreds, if not thousands of them.

Personally, I have tried to be as accurate as possible, even going out of the way at times, but then I'm only human subject to my own typographical errors, typographical errors and other types from sources beyond my control, and what have you. Monetary compensation or likewise has never been a goal for me when it comes to these things. It just gives me great pleasure in making these files, knowing that somewhere, somehow, someone has found what he or she is looking for! Me included! I rest my case.

responsibility

I don't anyone will hold it against you, I try to help the maintainers with POI files I am interested in, to let them know about any changes they might need to make, new locations, locations that have changed, or coordinates that need to be changed to get closer to the POI.

I have found that our members are pretty good about reporting by email to the maintainer of a file any problem with coordinates. Most times they will give you the correct ones with all the information needed.

Don't Worry, Be Happy

I agree with what charlesd45 said. And, I think the vast majority of folks here understand the task, limitations, and benefits.

I try to verify (as best as possible) small poi lists with something like Google's satellite view, but for large lists it's simply impossible.

I too appreciate the effort every contributor makes, and try to return the effort in my (meager) contributions.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

We are all human and do the best we can. As already said when we find errors in a file we contact the maintainer and they get corrected. I welcome the corrections because it makes a better file.

The files I have issues with are the ones created by someone and they have no contact tab to send the corrections to. Those files seem to never get updated and then the maintainer goes mia.

I would like to believe my POIs are perfect, but I'm sure they aren't. The other day I used one of mine to find a restaurant, turns out the place hasn't opened for business yet (doh!). I made a note for future reference on it.

I certainly welcome any corrections, even minor ones if the coordinates are a bit off.

The more accurate the better!
