firm ware 4.90 reset IS possible on Nuvi 760

i was told by Garmin that once you do an update in firmware you cannot revert back to previous version. THAT IS NOT A TRUE STATEMENT
I did a reverse firm ware from 4.90 TO 4.80 on my NUVI 760
because of continuous locking up problems { approx 10 in 30 minutes}

i went to: http://www.gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/
downloaded & executed the download - only lost previous searched locations , all else remained intact

Hmm

I have left mine at 3.x something because of this problem.

What is the best firmware to be using? I know mine calculates the mileage off for distance driven, but all else is okay so not a big deal (shows the wife drove around a 50,000 miles last year but the car went less than 15k).

Guess I am lucky. I have had

Guess I am lucky. I have had mine for 2.5 years now. Luckily, no major problems.

Heck, if they didn't

Heck, if they didn't give you slightly defective software with your older version, how'd they get you to buy a newer one!

And you thought it was bad software engineering & lack of testing!

thanks for the info

Thanks, also!

Got my 760 in 2008

I know I got it sometime either in 2008 or before, because we have tracks in Google Earth from then, and we've had no trouble so far, other than the battery doesn't hold a charge more than about 30 minutes now. But that's minor in the grand scheme of things!

4.9 works better for me

Seems to have fixed problem of loosing voice when restarting route.

map updated & got a firmware update

after doing a 2014 map update , the firmware was updated with it automatically. So i thought to myself "surely they fixed the lockup problem by now" - well NO!!
it locked up on the way to the gas station where i couldn't even activate anything on the screen
i removed the existing firmware from" Garmin folder called GUPDATE.GCD & replaced it with
nuvi760_480.exe 08-Jan-2010 16:02 4.8M
from http://www.gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/

shut down my gps & restarted it and it loaded up the old 480 firmware. Now my nuvi 760 has the latest maps & working firmware

the only thing i can say

The only thing I can say is you must have something else wrong with your unit that isn't playing together well. I haven't seen any other reports of 760's locking up with the latest firmware. Perhaps it's time for you to look beyond the lockup and see what else could be wrong. Start with a factory reset and then do the upgrade. Use the latest version of POI Loader and reload your POI. Clean out your faves and reenter, I'll bet you find the problem gone.
