Help with my Garmin Nuvi 780!!!! (rollback)

Ok here is the skinny.,,

I had a Garmin 780 that was having issues with the sound. I sent it back to be repaired. They sent me a refurbished 780, I went to my truck got all the connections working, paired it with my phone tested it and everything worked great. I go inside to register it online. As I was doing that I discover I have a map updates and software updates. Been through several of those and never had an issue I went ahead and completed both of them, still no issues. After the updates were completed and the system back on I see that it isn't connecting to my phone anymore ,Blackberry Bold 9700, I just figure that because of all the updates I need to pair it again. Tried for 5 hours and could never get it to connect. I then contact Garmin customer service for help. He tells me that the phone I have doesn't specifically work with the Garmin but that he isn't surprised that it did before and that likely the update is what severed the connection. He has me delete some files in the Garmin itself and re do the update Bluetooth. This doesn't help either. He then says that it looks like the update needs to be rolled back in order to regain that functionality and that Garmin doesn't support that. I do a search on Google and find this message board with a link to archived software updates. The problem is I see no updates for nuvi 780 only Nuvi 770. So I am not sure if I can use that update or not. Second I am not sure how difficult it is to actually rollback the version of software. Any help on this matter would be GREATLY appreciated.

Before doing the most recent update what version did you have on your unit ?

To see the changes from one version to another go here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/22479 and click nuvi 760.

Here's a complete list of previous versions http://gawisp.com/perry/nuvi/

Be advised that there's always a possibility that by doing the procedure incorrectly you can brick your unit permanently. There are several threads from other members warning that downgrading the 7xx series past a certain version can also result in the loss of Bluetooth permanently. I strongly suggest you do some searching and reading before deciding whether to do it or not.

As for the actual procedure it's explained here http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25608

Do the following at your own risk and good luck.

The 780

The 780 is the same unit as the 770 or the 760 so if you have the file for a previous firmware version for a 770 it will probably be OK.

The 780 is a 760 with an MSN Direct traffic receiver. The 770 is a 760/780 with map files for both North America and Europe preinstalled.

Warning - attempting to downgrade the firmware to version 4.00 or below will permanently break the Bluetooth facility.
