Missing street

My Garmin 255W does not show a street that has been there for decades and is well known to local residents. How do I get this road added?

If it is through Garmin, do I get a free update or do I need to purchase one? (They want $80 for an update, and I can buy a newer unit with lifetime updates for only a few dollars more.)

Hmm

I think you've answered your own question... providing the new one does what the old one does.

Good Luck

I've bin living here for 25 years and Garmin cannot find my address. Try "Where am I?" See what it says
Btw if your street isn't there now, chances are a newer map won't have them either.

Contact Garmin

I doubt they would give you free map update for report the missing streets to them. You can try!!

Not Garmin

You don't report it to Garmin, you report it to the map maker. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think Navtech is doing their maps.

...are the folks to notify. If you notify Garmin, they will just pass it on to Navteq. Look for it to take 12 to 18 months for it to filter through their system. Navteq is not as quick on these things as they could be. www.navteq.com

office complex missing

I checked the office complex where I work on the Garmin maps and the whole complex is missing. The complex has been here for at least 10 years.

You definitely need to pay

You definitely need to pay for the lifetime maps in order to see newer stuff on maps.
Once you submit updates to NAVTEQ it could take anywhere from 18 months to several years to get a correction. BTW; Updates to Google maps take no more than 2-4 weeks on average.

It took me five years to get

It took me five years to get Navteq to add a complete development that had been in existance for more than 10 years previous.

Five years for an update?

That's amazing! My friend paid $80.00 for a Garmin update, so she could find her mother's two year old house in another state. Chances are that she just donated $80.00 to Garmin.

Now I see why Garmin is offering free updates on most of their GPS's. They probably can't stand the heat from all of the complaints regarding map updates.

Relying on a subcontractor's performance is always risky business, and it looks like Garmin learned that the hard way, via Navteq.

map corrections and updates

map corrections and updates are interesting. I reported to Navteq an error in my mothers address. In the update I found it was corrected. My sisters subdivision which is about 3 years old wasn't on the map when I bought my 755t last year but with the map update it was.

Looking good so far...until I was checking out local stuff to see if the new updates and the GPS was working well after the update and now the interstate entrance closest to my house which was correct before is now wrong. How can they mess up something that was correct on previous versions of the map?

Good luck!!!

You might as well get used to the road not being on your Garmin. In the past I have reported road closures, road discrepancies, etc. to both Garmin and Navteq and have gotten no response or update on maps. You would think that they would take more pride in their products and make them as accurate as possible.

It seems to be hit and miss.

It seems to be hit and miss. I've reported a few errors in their maps, all in the same area. Some have been fixed, some haven't. I have no clue why, but perhaps someone at Navteq could explain - if you could ever get to speak to someone there! ;-(

I've run into that too, it's

I've run into that too, it's very very unusual but it does happen.
