I recently bought a Garmin GPS device with lifetime maps. "Lifetime Maps" include 4 map updates a year. But, within few weeks I used up 2 updates and wondering whether I will run out of my 4 chances before the year end.
Does anyone know how often Garmin updates the maps? Is their a webpage that lists the update history?
And also, when they say "4 per year", do they mean a calendar year during which you have to update?
nuMaps
Garmin publishes updated map files 4 times a year, the release dates vary from year to year, but are at roughly 3 month intervals. If you haven't done so already, go to my.garmin.com and register your device. From there you can see if a new map is available for your device and can download and install it from there. Have your device connected to your PC when you go to this site for best results.

No Worries
Denis,
Not to worry. You will be able to get every update as they come out. The first update release of the year is already out, which is what you have updated your unit with (apparently) so you should be up to date. The next one should be out in about 2 months.

If you don't get 4 updates a year, the world will still look the same to your GPS.
I bought my unbit over 2 years ago and have not updated it since the initial free update.
If you think about it, what you are really after, for the most part, are the new Points Of Interest. You will get better information here every time.
Lifetime
Lifetime updates is a good way to go, and I finally bought it...but just the time of doing a download keeps me from taking advantage of all 4 releases.
Miminal changes for the time invested in the update...so I will probably only do every-other-one or less.
you are qualified for every new map Garmin releases

Lifetime maps means you are qualified for every new map Garmin releases. You are not restricted to a fixed period of time to get the updates they offer.
Garmin states in their lifetime map disclaimer that they will offer up to four updates a year but it could be less.
History so far has been 4 per year on the lifetime updates.

New map is good but take too long for download and installation
As long as you have lifetime
As long as you have lifetime updates associated with your phone and only that phone that is registered to have the lifetime updates, your good to go... Expect roughly 4 times a year to receive them

I find with the road
I find with the road construction in my area, the updates are worth it for the new road configurations.
As for the pois, Garmin still has businesses that have been closed for 5+ years in the latest map update.

Agree
Taking a business off that has closed does seem to be a problem.Took me 2 years to get a bank removed.

I just upgraded to lifetime updates
It had been a year or more since I last updated. Based on the price I decided it was time to get lifetime updates.
I agree with the previous poster about the businesses not being updated as frequently as needed.
Garmin
doesn't do the updates. There done by Navteq who then sends the updates to Garmin. Send corrections to Navteq.
