My thoughts
Welcome to the Factory
Not sure about Google Maps as I don't use it for driving directions. I do download the redlight and speed cameras files but they're unimportant for me.
For any driver, once you leave the city: Rest Areas Combined-USA

Good Question
The list of POI files here is quite extensive.

A great many contain information not available on Google Maps.
I frequently use the files for my favorite restaurants and hotel chain locations. Yes, they are also on Google, but much easier to find on a GPS while navigating a route, especially on a larger screen.
A few others I use that are not available on Google are:
Ham radio repeater locations.
Bike trail parking lot locations.
Historic roadside markers.
Lighthouse locations.
WiFi hotspots.
Offbeat POI locations.
Notable waterfall locations.
Scan the list and see what peaks your interest. Then check Google.

Thanks! Bike trail parking lot locations and WiFi hotspots would be particularly useful for me.
Thanks
Thanks, I'll take a look!
Rest area files are a big one
Hotels and motels, various restaurants, gas stations, Costco, and the National Park Service. Also, the red light and speed cameras.

Camp sites

Google maps struggles a lot to find camp sites, particularly the national camp sites. That for me has been the biggest help.
Thanks
Thanks all!
