Nuvi 2460LMT

Anybody hear anything about the Nuvi 2460LMT ?

Not much

The only thing so far is what I read on Garmin page https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=87052 and a search on the internet.Don't think they are even released to vendors yet.

more models, less features,

more models, less features, not sure where they are heading.

I like it ...

..... of course from a 330 Street Pilot to the 2460 it's leaps and bounds better.

I also so have a Zumo 550 for my motorcycle and have to say the 2460 has some features I wish the Zumo did.

I bought two of the 2460 a few weeks ago when it was released, one for me and one for the wife. We had to exchange hers, a portion of the screen would freeze and repeat across the screen like mosaic. Had to reboot it each time it happened to fix it.

Otherwise it's seems like a great unit.

2450lm

I bought a 2450LM a couple of weeks ago. It is the same basic unit as the 2460 l mt without bluetooth and traffic. I have owned 5 previous models of garmin gps's and this one is by far the best, absolutely no problems. Didn't need traffic or bluetooth and that is why I ended up with this model. All kinds of new features and operating system. I paid $198 at walmart online. Really loving it.

Avoidances

Does the 2460 have avoidances? I read the manual on the Garmin site but it is unclear what an avoidance is. For example, if the interstate that is part of your route is closed for construction, can you designate that road as closed and will the 2460 navigate around it?

Yes

You can on the 2450LM so I am sure you can on the 2460.

I asked about the 2360lmt a while back, didn't get much info. Now this 2460lmt post. Can any one comment on how good or how bad the Voice-activated navigation is? Same would apply for the 2360lmt.

I own an 885, so the only thing I can tell you is that a lot depends on the vehicle you have it in. You have to talk over any engine/road noise so in a noisy environment, or if others are talking, the radio/cd playing, then it won't work well at all.

I'm at the point where about all I tell mine is "Go Home" and "View Map." I do some searches, but not many. It's faster to have my passenger key in the data. I just tell them what to enter.

Not surprised!

It is a shame, none of their manuals tell you what you need know anout the GPS. If it weren't for this site I wouldn't know half as much about my zumo. I don't even mind having to download the manual, it just barely gives you some of the basics about your GPS.

Thanks

Thanks Box Car, kind of makes sense also. Both our vehicles have built in hands free stuff, works excellent. The key is, that it mutes the radio when you use it and the mike is about 10" away from you. I wouldn't get so lucky with the GPS.

Point Addressing

Does the 2460 have point addressing? I've read somewhere in one place that it does, but overall, I can't find a reference to that anywhere. Point addressing would be the perfect feature for all the locations I have to travel to.

I have the 2460 but not sure what you're looking for, explain please

Point addressing takes you

Point addressing takes you where the address is. For example, on my nuvi, the 1390, if I were to put my address in, it shows my house as being around the corner from where it really is, and other address are off this way, sometimes up to .20 of a mile off. Point addressing takes you "to the front door" of where the address is, such as if you were to use a Google map to find an address of a place.

I spoke with someone at Garmin about this awhile back, and they said point addressing is coming. From what I've seen around the web, Garmin makes it available in Europe. I found a description of a 2460 on a European review site, and it said it has point addressing, but it's the only place I've seen it mentioned in any of the reviews I've seen, and I don't see it in the specs on Garmin's site. I looked through the manual online and didn't see it discussed there either.

gotcha

The 2460 pin pointed my house, whereas Google put's it a half a block down the street.

I believe you are refering to the Added support for Loc8 functionality. It must be coming down some time in the future because two updates on my 265 showed it.See

tested pinpoint today

No, a 130 mile route took me within sight but a half a block away and said the place was on the wrong side of the road.

The 2460 did pin point my house but failed today, only two routes I've really tested it on. Mostly I use it at work and have it on but mot taking me on a route.

This was all in Pennsylvania, USA. I noticed the link was for Ireland.

I own it

I own a 2460LMT...I owned the 1390LMT before it and my dad uses the 1490LMT. The 2460 has a lot of cool new features. One I like is you can tell it to avoid roads. When I drive to band practice, it always routes me a way that is littered with red lights. I told my 2460 to avoid that road.

I am happy I upgraded from the 1390. I would definitely recommend the 2460 to other people.

I still love it though

but one other somewhat annoying thing I've noticed is when making a turn on the route the screen goes blank for a few seconds after the turn, the "vehicle" and a few street names are still there but the roads disappear for a few seconds. This only happens when the next turn isn't coming up right away. I did notice everything was good when there were a few turns back to back as it were.

None of my other Garmins did this and it only happens when following a route, if it's in maviewiw but no route is entered nothing disappears.

Anyone else notice this?

I also have the 2460LMT and blanking screens

I have the 2460LMT and today I noticed it would blank almost everything out while following a route.
It comes back but it is a wide eyed wonderment to watch the process. shock

Another thing I can't make happen.

With my 2460, I have a good number of POIs downloaded from here and there. I've got icons and .mp3 files and everything matches; poi file names = icon names = .mp3 names. When driving around I get the icon displayed but only get a 'ding ding' sound when I expect it should be telling me about "the worlds greatest ball of dental floss" I am in proximity of. Don't want the 'ding dings'. Do want the voice alert. I have checked and Proximity Points : Alerts is Enabled, Audio is Single Tone. Any ideas??? question

wild guess

Doesn't like .mp3. Had to change all mine over to .wav when i got the 3790. Could be wrong but sounds like the 2460 doesn't support mp3 files

Your unit does not have the ability to play MP3. You need to download a program called SOX and put it in the same folder/directory as the program POILader.exe can be found in. Then you delete all the MP3 files and replace them with WAV files. Same restrictions about naming the files.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 for setting up wav files.

The sox file is the important factor. Box Car reminded me also.

Thanks a lot. I have been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out why my TourGuide was not working when I see your note on WAV instead of MP3. Not sure why but I just assumed the newer units all did MP3 and the older units were WAV. Switched my files and Life is good.

Thanks.
