Adding more memory to a Nuvi?

Hi,

My Nuvi 750 has 2GB of internal memory with very little free space. The latest 2012 map update worked, but I can see the possibility that future map updates will not fit.

I am also using a 8GB SDHC card for POIs, and I suppose maps can also be placed on the SDHC card.

I am just wondering how easy or hard it is to open up the Nuvi 750 and replace its internal memory with a larger one?

Is it a soldered chip?
Is it an internal SD card?

I am just wondering about this.

Howard

Adding memory

It has been said here before that you can add more memory by getting rid of all the different languages that you don't use or need.
They take a lot of memory.
If you attach the GPS to your computer and open the drive in "computer" and open the "Garmin" file you will see one line marked "voice".
Click on this line and it will show you all the languages installed in the GPS.
Just delete the ones that you don't need.
Next to the different languages you will see how much memory they use.
Befoe you start doing this check the porperties on the drive and check if after you are done, there will be a BIG difference. Good luck

I also have a 750

Howard, I also have a 750. I store my many POI Factory POI files on the nuvi's internal memory. Before the 2012.10 update, I deleted all but the 7 English language voices (American English plus the six TTS voices). I have 332 MB of free space on the nuvi post-2012.10 (all of North America) and post voice deletion. Given that the 750 doesn't include jcv files that add to the size increase on newer nuvi's map updates, 332 MB of free space will likely last through several more years of Garmin map updates and the nuvi will finally die or otherwsie be retired before I can't install all of North America on my nuvi. This is a much easier and free option compared to any thought of adding memory to your 750 internally.

Mmmmmm.....

I would say it would be extremely difficult and question if it could even be done.....delete the files you don't need(voices, keyboard, vehicles, etc.) Just be careful to not delete anything necessary to run the unit....

...which reminds me, back up your entire current nuvi drive to a computer hard drive, recordable DVD or whatever before deleting files from the nuvi's internal drive.
