Details: Atomic test sites (AKA, nuclear test sites) are places in the world where nuclear weapons have been detonated in test explosions. A purpose of this POI is to provide a location list for atomic test sites. The location information for this POI was obtained from atomicarchive.com et al. and more sites may be indicated at Wikipedia nuclear test sites.

Atomic Test Sites : Nuclear weapons tests are experiments carried out to determine the effectiveness, yield and explosive capability of nuclear weapons. The first nuclear weapon was detonated as a test by the United States at the Trinity site on July 16, 1945, with a yield approximately equivalent to 20 kilotons. On May 25, 2009, North Korea announced the most recent nuclear test.
