Creaking nüvi

I sent my nüvi 760 in for the battery recall. The replacement unit "creaks" when I handle or squeeze it. Also, the touch screen seems to have much more "give" to it than the original.

I had a 760 which was lost/stolen. I replaced it with another one which needed the battery recall done. Neither of those units creaked or had "give" to the touch screen. They were both like rocks.

I'm not really happy with the way this replacement unit feels.

Call Garmin & tell them why

Call Garmin & tell them why you're dissatisfied.

Fred

I agree with you. It should

I agree with you. It should not "creak". My unit is solid as a rock. I would call customer service and complain about their repair job.

Tight lines

.

It sounds like the case was not re-fitted properly, or the screws are not tight.

An exchange is required, IMO.

Screws

I have a tiny torx driver that fits the screws. I made sure they were tight but it still creaks. I'm quite annoyed. I really don't want to have to send the dang thing in again. I just got it back!

I guess I could open the unit and then put it back together again to see if that fixes the problem. Sigh...........

I've used liquid graphite key/lock lubricant to fix the creaky case on my 765. You can get it at most hardware stores. The lubricant consists of extremely fine graphite in a carrier which evaporates after a few minutes. Find exactly where the case is creaking (press in isolated areas until you find where) and put a very small drop on the seam of the two case halves. Don't try to drip it straight out of the bottle since the drop will be quite large. Instead, put a drop on the end of a toothpick and use the toothpick to transfer the amount you need. After applying, press, then release the case halves together for a minute or so to help with the lube dispersion. The lube will penetrate and wick in to the source. No need to worry about leaving a wet oily area since as I said, the carrier will evaporate leaving only the graphite behind.

Garmin finds out

If you work on it yourself and don't manage to fix it and Garmin finds out, they will probably not stand behind any further repairs.

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Garmin finds out??

Just open the case very carefully and re-seat all the components, gently push them down into place. Don't worry about Garmin, I don't believe Don will tell them.
However do put on your kid gloves when you open it, If your not satisfied when finished then send it back!
