Height of overpass

New to forums so don't know if this has been covered. RV is 12 ft 6 in tall so would like to map around low overpasses. Do any Garmins do this?

Is this what you're looking for ? It's a POI file you can add to your Garmin.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information. If I keep my old 750 that will be useful. Was wondering if there is a newer model that included heights. Heard there were some trucker versions that have that built in.

Nuvi 465T

Not that I've used it, but the Nuvi 465T is designed for truck drivers. It includes route restrictions and height info, and from the reviews I've seen, it allows you to customize alerts/restrictions based on your vehicle size.

Review here:

Amazon.com has it listed for $258 right now:

The Moose Is Loose! nuvi 760

Agree with glwilbert's opinion

Here in the New York City area we have hundreds of clearances lower that 12' 6". I wouldn't trust any GPS or guidebook. Use common sense and more than one source of info.

Take a look at this thread -

You do NOT need a overpriced 465t unit in the Trucking Industry. I use the 765t and have never had a problem! Use COMMON SENSE and you will be just fine. I Maintain the Weigh Station file and have the Low Clearance file on my unit as well.

I also was a Trucking Instructor!

(1)READ ANY SIGN with a NUMBER on it and it will keep you safe.... HAS for 18 Years!
(2)Never Trust ANY Electronic device.
(3) PLAN your ROUTE IN ADVANCE... DON'T treat it as another TRIP!
(4) WHEN IN DOUBT,,,, DON'T!!!
(5) GET a MOTOR CARRIER ATLAS as a BACKUP AND Reference.... NON Restricted Routes are Highlighted and LOW Clearances are listed by State.
(6) TREAT EVERY VEHICLE in front and around you as if they ARE YOUR FAMILY!!! cool
(7-1000) USE COMMON SENSE EVERYDAY!!!!

Setting the unit to the fastest route will keep it on the best and often time major roads. Stay off County or private roads.

Compare the two units and the 785t/765t wins hands-down because the features of the 465t can easily be added to the 7x5t... such as curves, narrow roads, repair centers and etc.
NO mp3, Junction view, Audio book player,FM transmitter, Headphone jack/audio line-out, ecoRoute™ (calculates a more fuel-efficient route), or Garmin Locate™ (marks position when removed from windshield mount)
Why buy a over-priced truck only unit when the 765t have it all... Auto or Truck.

A QUOTE from GPSMAGAZINE:
If you're not planning to take advantage of all MSN Direct has to offer, and are mostly interested in traffic, Garmin's nüvi 765T, which includes lifetime TMC traffic for free, and is otherwise identical to the 785T, is likely a smarter purchase.

Not only that, but sometimes

Not only that, but sometimes they're not accurate since road construction or repaving have raised the road and they didn't update the signs or the measurement, the end result? very close call or contact.

There is a great website called 11foot8.com

It has some pretty eye opening crashes and considering you are taller then that. Most moving vans in this video get scalped.
To me it appeared most of the railroad tracks are lower then most other overpasses, watch the right turns also as you will miss in most cases the warning signs.

Good video on youtube along the same lines.

11foot8.com

Hmmm...

That looks like it's in Durham, Nc.

Been at that overpass and have witnessed those kind of things a couple of times..

It's been that way since 1994 thast I know of.

Saw one where a to talk truck went under and another one rear-ended it and pushed it almost all the way through.

I clicked on this and came up as Access Denied.

If I recall correctly, a member was maintaining this and another site or a corporate dude threatened legal action. Claimed our file was using data raken from his.

Others here might be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

DriveSmart 65, NUVI2555LMT, (NUVI350 is Now Retired)

check the poi files

I have one poi loaded that covers from Pennsylvania north to Maine as well as ON & QC in Canada.

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/43354

The above file was last updated in 2014. I'm in southeastern PA and there are tons of underpasses and only one shows up on the GPS when approaching and it's off by a couple inches. The trouble is that bridge heights change a little each time a road is resurfaced. It would be very difficult to update all the changes, it would be a huge task, and Garmin isn't exactly quick with actually updating maps, yes they have an update 3 or 4 times a year but all the changes sometimes take a year to catch up.

. 2 Garmin DriveSmart 61 LMT-S, Nuvi 2689, 2 Nuvi 2460, Zumo 450, Uniden R3 radar detector with GPS built in, includes RLC info. Uconnect 430N Garmin based, built into my Jeep. .

POI -Clearance under 12 feet

I downloaded clearances from a RV 660LMT in an attempt to create a file to correspond with my fifth wheel trailer. I used the information from the RV 660 and some poi files listed above, and verified the correct height using Google Earth Street View and some state structure clearance records.

However, it soon became apparent the that the information from Garmin and the POI files, did not match the actual height posted at some structures.

Instead of continuing to update and correct this information in my POI file, I am now in the process of obtaining a 2018 Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas, which I am assuming would have more accurate and up to date clearance information on the structures in each state.
