NUVI 255W-No alerts for POIs

I've been struggling all week, trying to get my NUVI 255W to produce the alert sound for anything. I've uploaded .csv and .gpx format, named the mp3 and bmp files the same as the .csv or .gpx, verified the proximity setting is on (tried single and continuous).

I've tried naming it TourGuide and not naming it that way. I've tried driving right past the points and driving to the points. I've set the proximity for 1 mile and for 5 miles.

Nothing is coming up, visually or audibly. If I go past one of the POIs the icon shows up, but no sound. I've used Extra_POI_Editor to correct the Wal-Mart near me, put extra information in the Comments box, set the sound, set the proximity. Everything but the sound seems to be working.

Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

The 255 does not support Mp3's.You need sox.exe and wav file for your voice alert see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .Make sure to put sox.exe in correct location.For example on Windows XP.My computer,Local disk c,click Garmin folder and paste copy of sox.exe there.You will see many files there including poiloader.

D'oh! Yes, it needs wav files

I thought it being a new GPS it would support MP3 but the Nuvi 255W has been around for a while. I searched for the thread on sox.exe, downloaded the file, downloaded the wav files instead of MP3 and voila! I'm in business

Thanks for the help

@richw46

Glad you got it to work.Most of the new units coming out now don't support Mp3.Wav files are becoming very popular now.

You may want to look at this thread since you use the alerts. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/28521

A lot of have also found that the 2x5 models support more then one via point as stated in the manual see http://www.poi-factory.com/node/19196 .
