Need help with Garmin 755T (POI's don't show up on the GPS)

I'm a novice with POI's and I can't get the unit to recognize the POI's. I downloaded the POI's to my computer and then used the Garmin POI loader to transfer them to the 755 but they don't show up on the GPS.

I assumed that the loader put them in the right spot on the unit. Do I need to put them in a specific directory? Or is my problem with the settings on the unit? I really need some help here to walk through this and thanks in advance.

.

Look under Where To/ Extras.

Edit - to turn them on, go to Tools/ Settings/ Proximity Points/ Proximity Alerts/ Change. Make sure Custom POI's are checked.

Not enough coffee this morning! rolleyes

Proximity Alerts

Lets not confuse the Lad. He's looking for his custom poi's. Just hit "Where to?" then scroll down to "Extras" Hit that icon and in there you should find Custom POIs. All your stuff will be in there. Proximity Alerts is something different.

True, it is. I threw that in before the inevitable question of alert sounds came up!

Another thought, I wonder if he's zoomed in enough to see them? OP, use 50 meters or 150 feet at the most to see them on the screen.

You need a 3790T for that feature...lol

?

What to see them, or hear the alert sounds? The 755T supports both.

The proxomoty a;erts are checked

And an alert doesn't sound or it doesn't show on the screen. Where are the custom POI's stored in teh GPS-what folder and what file extension? I appreciate your help so far but I'm still stuck. Should I be saving them to a POI folder on the GPS?

Tell us exactly what you have done so far.

What software?

Using POI Loader to transfer

Using POI Loader to transfer them and the computer is running Windows

.

Are the sounds, and icons named the same for the poi? An example is:

• Starbucks.gpx
• Starbucks.bmp
• Starbucks.mp3

They all have to be named the same. Then, the poi loader will load them as a *.gpi file on your drive.

Hmmmmm. I'll have to go

Hmmmmm. I'll have to go back to go and start this project over making sure that the sounds etc. are all saved using the same naming convention. Thanks guys. I appreciate the advice!

Under your Garmin in explorer you find a sub directory named Garmin. Open it up and you'll see more Directories. Look for POI. Open that up and you should see a file called poi.gpi. Those are your custom poi's that you put in there with poi loader.

Nah

Not until the price drops, and they fix the bugs in it. Besides, I still enjoy my 775T!

LOL.. and you got that one why? It does no more than mine. I can see upgrading going from the 755t. How much more did you pay for the Transatlantic maps? Besides, they wouldn't let you drive over there anyways, if they found out where you come from. rolleyes

Actually, I got it for $330 at Future Shop. A good deal, IMO.

We have to stop hijacking this thread...

When you load the files with poiloader they are converted to a poi.gpi file.Connect gps to computer. You will find it when you click on Garmin folder then the Poi folder.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25721 for custom pois.Make sure you run poiloader in manual mode and set the distance you want for the alert.Keep in mind the alerts will only work when the coordinates are no more then 50 to 75 ft off the road of travel.

The simple way to get started

If nothing works, forget about sounds and icons and get the POIs working. See my FAQ -

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30728

Once you know the POIs are in the GPS and working with proximity alerts, think about sounds and icons.
