Returned from 2200 mile trip

Just returned from a 2200 mile trip to Western Nebraska and S Dakota. Traveled over many miles of "ranch roads" and roads located on federal grasslands with no problems. The garmin identified most of the county roads by name and it showed us the grassland roads but no numbers. Garmin helped a lot.

2200 mile trip

Glad to hear the Garmin did okay. Around there it must have a clear view of the sky with no mountains or forests to block its view of the satellites.

Is that where the "Badlands" of South Dakota is?

badlands

No, we were further West near Ardmore, SD

Mountains

Any GPS has a problem if something gets in the way of its seeing the satellites. Sometimes the satellites are directly overhead and sometimes closer to the horizon. Tall buildings, mountains, trees with leaves, or even rain can interfere with the signal. The result is a position that is less than accurate.

City's give more problems with tall buildings. Canyons can give some problems.

Sounds like you are having a nice trip and seeing some nice places with plenty of scenery.

Mountains

On another trip to the Colorado Rockies, we didn't have any problems with the mountains. Garmin got us into Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park without any trouble.
