How to get POIs to show up in Mapsource

OK. I downloaded a collection of POIs. I converted them to a .gpx file. I loaded them into Mapsource. They show up in the "Waypoints" tab on the left of the screen. But they won't display on the map! If I select a waypoint, and "show on map" the waypoint shows up on a blank map. Waypoints that I make myself in Mapsource show up OK. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Mapsource 6.15.7, Windows Vista Business x64.

Yes, I know that's how it's supposed to work. But it doesn't! Clicking on one of my created waypoints, it shows up. Clicking on one of the waypoints converted from a POI file, it doesn't.

I just noticed that you said

I just noticed that you said to "select all categories under show waypoints in category." Where is this?

I don't see a "basic map"

I don't see a "basic map" selection under "view".

Note that I CAN "View/Show selected waypoint on map" but when I do that the waypoint shows up on a completely blank map. Not much help.

select all categories under show waypoints in category

It will not show until you download the gpx file to Mapsource.Once downloaded click waypoints located next to maps, routes and tracks you will see it under that.

Open, not download.

charlesd45@ You have to Open the gpx file in MapSource, not download it.

pwantzel@ Highlight all the Waypoints (ctrl-a) which is where MapSource puts the POIs from your gpx file. Open properties and select a Symbol for them.

You can select a different Symbol for each Waypoint or groups of them.

If Show Selected Waypoint on Map displays a blank map, you may have longitude and latitude mixed up. Recreate your gpx file and reverse the input fields.

I use Extra_POI_Editor and my results are really good converting csv to gpx files.

OK, now I see it. It does

OK, now I see "Show waypoints in category". It does say "all categories".

Can you try another gpx file

Can you try another gpx file and open it up in Mapsource and see if you get the same results?

This looks like what's happening. When I zoomed out far enough to see more than just the USA, I see the waypoints elsewhere in the world. So it looks like a conversion error. I was using GPSBabel. I will try your recommended program. Or maybe reversing the lat/long columns in the .csv file.

Reverse Lat Lon

This is a common error -

Extra_POI_Editor worked fine!

I reconverted my .csv file using Extra_POI_Editor (instead of GPSBabel) and now the POIs display fine.

Thanks everyone who helped.
