Almost got a ticket from one of these infernal things in Palm Coast Florida. The road was recently paved and a passing shower made it nice and slick. Thankfully my POI Factory database gave me the heads up. Needless to say, at 50 mph and at the last second, the light decided to cycle. Thankfully no one was behind me as I hit the brakes and the ABS kicked in. If it wasn't for the fact I would have been fined $158.00 (their fees just went up)there was no way I would have even considered attempting to stop. The cameras can definitely be a hazard. An accident or summons certainly would have been a downer while on vacation. I read an article in the local paper about the fees increasing as of July 1. If these things aren't a revenue generator than there must be a lot of flying pigs around.
They make so much money, even the state changed its law to get a piece of the pie. Now the state gets the lions share and the city has to pay the provider from its share.
Red-light camera citations used to be $125, with the city receiving $85 and American Traffic Solutions getting $40. But that changed when the new state law took effect July 1, boosting the fine to $158.
The city now gets $75 and the state gets the rest. The camera company's money comes out of the city's share.
