POI Duplicate Finder-Remover

Did a search, and did not find anything mentioned about this, but the other night, while surfing the Net, I found this free program that removes duplicate POIs.
Quoting their WebSite: "This utility can process multiple POI files (format CSV, comma separated), merge POI lists, find and eliminate (or mark) duplicates (POIs with similar coordinates, e.g. POIs having < 10m distance between them)." http://sourceforge.net/projects/poi-dup-finder/

.

EPE can do this as well. Not sure of the distance though. Maybe TurboCCC can help us out on this.

Yup, worth keeping an eye on this one

And while we're discussing such apps, is there anything for Linux yet ? Getting tired of using workarounds, just because I decided to try the Free Alternative.

Ain't nuthin' never just right to do the things you wanna do when you wanna do them, so you best just go ahead and do them anyway ! (Rancid Crabtree, from Pat F McManus fame)

Is it hardcoded to 10m?

It would be really nice if you could define your own limits.

Sourceforge

This is the same site that provides "Audacity" audio editor/recorder that I've used for years. If you need to edit or record MP3 or any other digital audio file this is a free program that rivals the best commercial editors. I downloaded the POI-dup finder and if is half as good as their Audacity program it will be outstanding.

EPE Can Find & Remove Duplicates

This is from the EPE Help file:

Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl + D

Opens the "Find Duplicates" window where criteria can be set regarding the type of duplicate checking to be done.

Selecting "Exact Coordinates Match" will result in POIs being considered as duplicates when their longitudes and latitudes are identical.

Selecting "Distant Match" and entering a number in the "km" field (or "mi" field depending on the setting in Preferences) will result in POIs being considered as duplicates if one falls within a radius (as set by km/mi) of another.

"OK" performs a search on the open file to determine if there are any duplicate POIs based on the matching criteria selected.

If duplicates are found a "Duplicate" window is opened over the bottom half of the Main window where the duplicate POIs are displayed.

To facilitate easy of deleting, one of the matching POIs will be checked and the other(s) will not.

The distance between the two duplicates is displayed in the Dist column on the right.

Selecting a POI in the Duplicate window, causes it to be selected (highlighted) in the List area and thereby displaying its data in the Preview area. This is handy when examining the duplicates to ensure that they are in fact the same.

Check All and Uncheck All do as their names suggest.

Refresh List repopulates the Duplicate list to reflect any changes that may have been made.

Delete Unchecked Duplicates deletes all unchecked POIs in the Duplicate window without any second chance. Be sure of your choices before executing this procedure.

Close Window takes no action other than close the Duplicate window and thereby uncovering the bottom half of the main window.

I am happy with what EPE provides to me. I am also looking for a good audio editor/recorder utility, so I will take it, as well.

EPE does the job for me...

I use EPE to check all my poi files for dupes, so I have not checked out any other apps for that purpose. Just for some grins grin I will take a look at this one.
