It,s amazing the amount of things we can learn through others. The abbreviations are very clever and certainly practical.

Sorry to be so dense, but how would this help in building a POI?
Colorado vs CO
Unfortunately, Karen often says "coe, ninety-three" instead of "Colorado ninety-three."
Come to think of it, she used to pronounce WA-14 as Western Australia instead of Washington.
I should try Jill if I could stand her voice.

Try this for a POI name:
-67.834062, 46.141129, REST AREA HOULTON ME:I-95 SB @MM305
or:
-86.936692, 34.781691, Cracker Barrel :Athens AL

It makes me crazy...

I use Jill (with a few modifications...) I tried Karen, but while the voice is nice, I can't deal with the different pronunciations. For example, a nearby main road is "Route 106" - everyone, including Jill, refers to it as "route one-oh-six". When I gave Karen a try, she called it "Art Tee One hundred and six". That would just drive me crazy - and I can find crazy all on my own, with the help of my GPS, thank you very much.

That's An Impressive List Alright
Now if I can only remember
which abbreviation I used when I go searching for that POI from way back when . . .
Very helpful...thanks
Excellent. I am not sure if I can get Emily to say Drive....rather than Doctor, but I will give it a go
Gotta give this a try....
I have to give this a try. I wondered if there was a way to get the voices to say more, with the limited amount of space available to enter comments , but never really looked into it. Thanks

I never realized that the different voices had different pronunciations. I just picked Australian English Lee b/c he sounded nice. Has anyone checked out who has the best pronunciations for US locations.
POI names or addresses
I am still unclear how this applies to POIs. To alert to a POI that I have loaded, I use a Sound file (mp3 or wav). Spoken voices are not involved, are they?
if you route

If you route to a custom POI location and your unit has Text-To-Speech, it will say the destination POI Name.

Use TTS_Speech_Doctor
Excellent. I am not sure if I can get Emily to say Drive....rather than Doctor, but I will give it a go
You can use TTS_Speech_Doctor to correct the abbreviation to say Drive instead of Doctor. This onew has been fixed long ago.
Below is the list of abbreviations fixed by TTS_Speech_Doctor:
•Change "St" to "Street" instead of "Saint"
•Change "FM" to "Farm Road" instead of "F-M"
•Change "Dr" to "Drive" instead of "Doctor"
•Change "SR" to "State Road" instead of "Stage Road" (Jack & Jill & Samantha only)
•Change "Br" to "Business Route" instead of "Branch" (Jack & Jill & Samantha only)
•Change "Cl" to "Clinic" instead of "Close" (Karen & Lee only)
•Change "O" to "West" instead of "Oest" (Julie & Felix only)
•Change "Boul." to "Boulevard" instead of "Boul+pause" (Julie & Felix only)
•Change "HwY" to "Highway" instead of "H-W-Y" (Daniel & Emily only)
•Change "AuT" to "Highway" instead of "A-U-T" (Daniel & Emily only, French countries)
•Change "O" to "West" instead of "O" (Daniel & Emily only, French countries)
•Change "Boul." to "Boulevard" instead of "Boul+pause" (Daniel & Emily only, French countries)

How does it apply to POI?

I kind of agree with you. This abbreviation list is not very useful for POIs. I have been playing with them since 2008. I made TTS_Speech_Doctor and Doctor_Pro to help correct pronounciation errors, but never for POIs. Even their usage in a POI name that will be spoken at destination is not a major enhancement. To my knowledge, those abbreviations are intended for navigation and texting.
