Hi I have a StreetPilot 2610 it uses waypoints.
I will be shortly getting a nuvi 13xx and obviously I would like to copy the waypoints from the Streetpilot to the nuvi.
Any ideas ?? (thanks)
Waypoints
You can download Extra Poi Editor http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor .Connect 2610 to computer and go to file on EPE and click Open Garmin Favorites.Once you have the favorites loaded from the 2610.Connect the 13xx gps to computer and go back to file and click on Save to Garmin Favorites.
Another method favorite transfer
If you can access the drive to the 2610.Go to Garmin folder and click on it.Then click GPX folder. You will see current.gpx.Make copy and paste on your computer some where.Connect 13xx to computer and inside the gpx folder paste the current.gpx and re-boot gps.If the favorites don't show .Rename the current, gpx to temp.gpx and paste back in the gpx folder and re-boot.
Custom poi transfer
Not sure if that unit can do custom pois.If yes.Connect 2610 to computer and back to Garmin folder and click on it.Click POI folder. You will see poi.gpi.Copy it and using same process for 13xx paste the copy back in the POI folder for the 13xx

That is helpful.

If you have mapsource you
If you have mapsource you can also transfer favorites on the transfer tab at top.

Mapsource
I think in my case Mapsource is the only option, as the 2610 is not seen as HD/storage by the PC.
I was trying to avoid Mapsource as the PC it is installed on is currently collecting dust somewhere, and all I remember it was a pain to install at the time.
Thanks
Extra Poi Editor will get
Extra Poi Editor will get them from the unit as outlined above. You can save it as a gpx file in case you just want to paste it in the 13xx gpx folder.Always a good idea to keep a copy on your computer some where in case the UN-expected happens.I would copy the complete Garmin drive for the new 13xx once you get it set up.Make sure to to set computer to show hidden files when you copy the drive. Also keep copy on a flash drive or disk in case the computer goes south.

Can't do it
Extra Poi Editor (I did download it) cant retrieve the Favorites from 2610 as its not seen as a drive on the PC once connected. I did give it a shot but no go. As a matter of fact the 2610 is not recognized as anything once connected to USB, I had to go to Garmin site to download the USB driver for it. After driver install it recognize the 2610 as a Garmin GPS unit, but thats it, not as a storage device. Maye I go the wrong driver. I was thinking of taking the flash card out of the unit and using it directly, but I think the waypoints are stored on the internal memory not on the flash card....
If I am missing something please advise, as I dread getting the Mapquest PC out....
Using Extra Poi Editor.Just
Using Extra Poi Editor.Just go to file and scroll down and you will see Open Garmin Favorites.A little red heart by it.The favorites will now show on the Extra Poi Editor screen.Go back to file and scroll to Save As.Make sure to save as a garmin gpx.It should defult to it.Make sure to save on the computer some where easy to find.
Once you get the 13xx and connect to computer just copy and paste in gpx folder next to current.gpx.You will need to rename the file you put there that you saved either current.gpx or temp.gpx when you paste in folder. Not familiar with your model but almost sure I done this process with the Streepilot 340 that also was not a storage device. There also is a program that you can download for free called EasyGps that works the same way.I used it in the past but sometimes when transfering from gps some info was lost

More info

When you attach the 2610 to your PC, open Windows Explorer and look for a "drive" letter that is designated as "Garmin ...". My 765T becones drive "G:\" but yours may be different depending on what features your PC has (such as cd/dvd drives, flash card readers, etc).
Open the drive in Explorer and you should find the files on the GPS unit. Now you will know how to point EPE to the files.
Let us know if Explorer does not see your 2610.
It does not
It does not
Yet I can see a USB device connected in the USB devices window. Its called something like Garmin GPS. As its not here I cant check for sure on name.
Has it ever

Has your computer ever recognized the 2610 as distinct drive?
Did you download the Garmin specific drivers before you took any action with Mapsource?
LOL
NO
It always WORKED/WORKS that way, as far as I know.
By the way Mapsource and the Garmins Web Update see it and talk to it with no issues. Its one of the oldest StreetPilot models.
C340
Extra Poi Editor (I did download it) cant retrieve the Favorites from 2610 as its not seen as a drive on the PC once connected. [snip]
Same issue with the C340, which never shows up as a separate drive. Don't know that there's anything that can be done about it though.
You can still pull favorites
You can still pull favorites from some units including the c340 that are not mass storage.I use to do it all the time with mine. The subject here is the 2610.Every thing I found so far on Garmin Products shows nothing on accessing the Garmin drive for that model. It does state the way points are stored on the internal drive. Also talks about using Mapsouce.Looks like EPE would do it or EasyGPS.If not OP going to have to pull out old computer he has with Mapsource.

Will Try again
Ok, thanks a million for looking into it.
I will give it one more shot with EPE and will look for Easy GPS as well before going over to Mapsource.
In general I kind of stopped with EPS when it gave me a message "Sorry. I could not find your Favorites. Be sure to connect you GPS first. This program assumes the Favorites can be found in :\Garmin\GPX\Current.gpx or :\GPS\Current.gpx. If not, it will not work." ....

Found Easy GPS at http://www.easygps.com/
Will try later tonight
Let me know?You are right
Let me know? You are right connect gps to computer first then click on Open Garmin favorites under file for EPE?

Some newer units are not
Some newer units are not seen as storage device by Windows. The only way to talk to it is with a special Garmin driver. EPE will not be able to do anything if you cannot see it first in Explorer. I am curious to know how this will end. Let us know.
Turbo
Not sure Turbocc if I done
Not sure Turbocc if I done it on EPE but for sure I done it on EasyGPS many times as well as Mapsource. It was my first unit that did not show as a drive on the computer. So really curious about EPE doing it.What do you mean by a special driver? Can a unit be made to access the storage with a special driver?

The moral of the story
Do you want to hear the bad or the good news first ?
The Bad first:
Well EPS definately did not do it.
The Good :
EasyGPS had no issues what so ever.
Also a side note: the Garmin 32bit driver crashed 3 out of 4 times, on Win7 64 bit , 2610 was connected to a PC. I could have not found the latest driver , but in any case I only needed to connect once.
As it stands everything transfered just fine. Now I just have to edit some names of waypoints as the 2610 allowed for a relatively short name.
THANK YOU for helping.
Glad you got it Turbo13.Once
Glad you got it Turbo13.Once you get the 13xx you will not have that trouble any more and can start downloading some custom pois. You could even make a custom poi file out of the way points.

Not a USB storage device
When the GPS is not seen as a storage device, EPE will not see it as a drive and will not be able to access the GPS. Instead, EPE would probably need to use the Garmin driver to get the Favorites.
This is my guess anyways. If any of you want to share information, I'll be glad to make the necessary changes so EPE will be able to access the GPS.
Changes
Turbocc,
I think the changes would not be worth it, as the number of units that are old and communicate this way is limited. If new units are coming out this way, then its a different story, but I am not up to date on this.
In the old days most of the USB drivers where nothing more then mapping stuff to a serial device and thus would enable your to communicate to it serially. This would still require you to know the command set.
As I was looking at the issues I had I think I did see a few APIs that Garmin offered. It also seemed that they where free at first and if used would require a payment (cant remember 4 sure now). In any case I'd stick to file manipulation for now as long as you can get away with it.
Thanks for all the help...

PS Got the 1370t and all the points transferred with no issues at all. Both US and Europe (as I had both maps for the 2160).

You are probably right. I'll standby for now.
