Nuvi Car Charger

Mine does exactly the same thing. I was going to buy a new one as a replacement but now I wonder?? I've found that it is basically a bad design. I have to unscrew the tip and wiggle the fuse around. Then put the tip back on and make sure it's tight. This will resolve the problem (temporatily).

Exatly........I plan on calling support to get their take on this.

Yup happened to me in the middle of a trip when I took the charger out the metal contact was gone I had to take a screw bit and put it inside to make contact with the spring inside so the Nuvi could charge up again I'm not buying a new one if the new one is going to have the same problem in fact the screw bit works just fine! LOL

It happen that my Motorola car charger with USB port works on the Nuvi 350. At least it plug into the mounting dock and seem to be running the unit. I purchase this car charger in an $.99 store. :^)

I had the same issue with my charger. I called Garmin and told them about the problem. They sent me a new one at no charge (free shipping also) and told me to keep the old one.

The new one they sent was a slightly different design and works much better.

I have not had any problems with my Nuiv 360 or 660 charger, but both units are less than 2 months old.

I haven't had the problem with my c530, but have had issues with other devices, mainly my refrig unit. I went to Walmart I believe, but can't remember, and got a splitter. Not only did it give me an extra outlet for something else, but the plug (female) was much shallower and therefore made better contact.

I am now up to six outlets...lol. Refrig unit, RD, GPS, CB, personal cell and work cell

Sounds like you need to carry your own power plant. lol Maybe a wind generator or solar array?

I guess that is why MSN Weather Alerts might be a good choice for an upgrade.

Called support, talked to a very nice guy, who said he had not heard of the issue but would send me a new charger first thing in the morning. No questions asked.

Yeah...bad design. Mine arrived broken in the box when I bought it. The good news is that Garmin replaced it via fedex in three days, no questions asked. Nice job Garmin! Still, the new one looks like it could easily break. That multi piece design at the top of the plug is just simply fragile.

I had the same problem. The problem is the spring inside the adapter. With wear, it gets too big around and doesn't make contact. I took a pair of pliers and crimped the inner end of it (opposite the fuse) in a little, and now it works fine.

I have the nuvi 350 for over 2 years, never had an issue with the car charger disengaging from the cigarette lighter, especially on rough terrain. NYC Pot Holes problem.. I drive a 2000 Honda accord.

I use the 12 volt charger on my motorcycle. I have a 1 to 3 adapter and also run my XM Radio and have never had any problems with the charger for my Nuvi 360.
