The product key and instructions you receive from your purchase of a OneTime or lifetime numaps update should direct you to the proper update site. I think the procedure below is what you'll follow. Note that if you've not done this yet, logging into mygarmin will require the installation of Garmin Communicator--and if you haven't registered your GPS device, you'll need to do that before applying a map update code to a GPS.

Log in to mygarmin:

https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces

then from your mygarmin home page, click "Manage maps:"

then click "Activate gift card" for the registered GPS device you wish to apply the Product Key you received from Amazon or from whomever you bought the OneTime or lifetime map update. You'll then be able to download and install the map update to your computer and GPS. Have your GPS connected to the computer via USB during this process.

One comment on Amazon's Customer Reviews said the "Activate Gift Card" page is not the web page to use. For those of you trying to use your new OneTime Product Key from Amazon, try going to the Unlock Maps page instead:

Sign into "mygarmin," click "myproducts" and select the GPS you wish to apply the update to, then click "Activate/unlock or update your mapping products," then click "Unlock On The Road/Trail maps" and enter your Product Key there.

And please, if it works for you, let us know here at POI Factory!

There is no link "Activate/unlock or update your mapping products" on the page only "Activate Gift Card"
So, doesn't work.

Very odd. I have two choices on my mygarmin site under the Product Details for each of my two nuvis: Activate gift card and the Activate/unlock... option I mention earlier. Could you try again? What model GPS is listed under Product Details where you see just the gift card option?

Garmin Map Updates $30.00 Amazon

I wonder if they havw an option to get it on DVD at this price? I suppose the more likely scenario would be that it would be an additional $10 more.

Onetime Map Update for US & Canada to only $29.99. Keep your GPS current and working at its best by getting the latest updates so you can navigate with confidence.

But hurry, offer expires on May 15, 2010. While supplies last.

SUPPLY, what supply? Isn't this an electronic download? Unlimited supply. That's the price it should always be, or maybe $25.

If the price stays at $30 it is not a bad deal for those that only update once a year or so. Then again the price could go back up to $60 or more. Three updates would have bought you lifetime maps with up to four per year. I think for another $60 lifetime is the way to go....only my opinion...

Amazon page says you need Windows Vista, et al, but it also works on Windows 7

2010 or 2011?

from the reviews i'm reading it's for the 2011 updates and not the 2010. This is based on what people have downloaded. Can anyone confirm this

Yes, it's 2011.10

Yes, you get the latest map, 2011.10 (unless you own a nuvi 8xx, which is stuck at 2010.40 for about another week).

thank you

Piece of Mind!!

I ordered a Nuvi 255W (Refurb) from Amazon for $99.00 for my Family coming in form back east in October, and if need be I'll use the $30.00 update from Amazon, get it all set up with updates and of course our address pre-programed for them, ship it out to them to play with and learn.. Small price to pay to know there on the right roads and out of harms way. Nice tool to have for quick access to Medical-fire-Gas. It's almost as important as a cell phone on the road.

This procedure only unlocks a downloaded map. I have the same issue as everyone else, maybe Amazon sold everyone the same product key????

Garmin Map Updates $30.00 Amazon

Wow that sounds good too bad I already spent $69 for the 1 time numaps from garmin

No problem

I bought the map update form Amazon, and downloaded on to my 650. Everything went good..no problem..

Here's the solution

Go back to the first post and click the link again.
Or click here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002Q2VZCC/
You should see in the upper right corner "You purchased this".

Right below that is a button "Go to your software library". Click it and log in if prompted.

It shows your order details, including your product key. Click Print, Email, etc. to get a copy of your order details and product key. Or just copy the code from the screen.

Log in to your My Garmin account and then go here:
https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/ActivationLogin.htm
Enter your code and click Activate. The download should start after that.

Tried it but it doesn't work, either.

I tried activating this way as well as the 'activate gift card" option and neither works. I'll call Garmin today...wait for an hour on hold..and see if I can find out the issue. I hate Garmin more and more everyday.

Amazon one time map update

They have stopped selling the download when I looked this morning.

I have a code and am waiting for the fix.

Darn

That's too bad. At least it's Monday now so Garmin will be able to start to respond by phone or answer their emails and correct the problem..hopefully very soon.

It is very sad that over time, Garmin seems to come up with new glitches preventing an update from going through with almost all updates. (Maybe I'm a bit bitter since the new 2011.10 map has been out for a while now, but even though I and others have lifetime maps, nuvi 8x0 and 8x5 owners can't get the update yet due to the update being incompatible with our 8xx units right now.)

If Garmin

don't update their maps with updated POIs or streets all the time then 30 a year is probably a good deal for the updates if they continue to do it this way. It seems once a year update is enough for me unless there's a major one.

I contacted Garmin t

I contacted Garmin t support, transferred 3 times, finally got software support and was told he would report the issue with activating the map updates from Amazon.com, to the IT dept. Hopefully, it will be fixed this year, along with the 8xx series maps updates. Ok, I'm ready to switch to TomTom. Enough is enough.

Yeah, it's gone

Yeah, Amazon killed the deal last night or this morning, not surprising, given the dozens of complaints posted on Amazon and here over the weekend about all the code fails. I bet they get their act together and fix it.

I was tracking this post

I was tracking this post since I have never updated my 680's map. I recently added lifetime traffic with GTM 20 and appreciate the enhanced utility of the nuvi.

I live in the Greater Los Angeles area, can folks who also live here chime in with your comments whether I should do the $30 upgrade?

TIA

OK.....so where the heck am I?

Fix for Product Code Problem

To those who are receiving the following error:

"Our system is experiencing difficulty processing your card. Please try this process again. If difficulties persist, contact Garmin Product support for assistance."

I called Garmin first thing this morning(09:00).
The tech took all of the info and referred it up the line to the proper techs.

I just received a follow-up e-mail about 45 min ago, stating Amazon will send out via email a new product code to be used.

I then called Amazon electronic code techs and verified with them that they indeed had been working with Garmin about this issue. They are in the process of testing the new codes to make sure they work. I was told it will take a little time longer and that the emails should be sent later today.

Hope this quells all the ugly rumors out there. It is being addressed as I write this......

No
I didn't ask.

But the Amazon add originally said "GOOD UNTIL 15th MAY" now says "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available."

I am assuming it was only taken off the market because of the trouble discussed here. It should be back after the new codes have been tested.

RipOff?

nansoutey wrote:

I disagree. Don't buy it if it isn't a good value for your circumstances..

Example-

Bill has a 5 yr old GPS that has never had a map update.

He replaced the battery last year and it works like a charm but is thinking of upgrading in a year or so. He checked Navteq and a number of changes made to nearby freeways have been added to the map over the past two years.

Does he spend $30.00 to get updated and bridged over to 2011 or 2012 or spend two or three times that for a lifetime map on a unit with a limited life expectancy.

One last option would be to buy a Rand McNally map book for about $25.00 and go back to having his wife calling out directions.

Where is the rip off??

Weekend Download Issue - Garmin is aware of problem

Here's a response from Garmin about my issue with the bad software key on my netime map purchase from Amazon.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I have forwarded your
product key and myGarmin username to our IT department. Our IT
department is aware that there is an error with some of the codes
purchased over the weekend from Amazon.com. We are working with
Amazon.com to correct this error and replace the invalid code. As soon
as the error is corrected you should receive a new code in an email from
Amazon.com. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Yes if you compare it to the $70 lifetime map update but not everyone wants to update maps that often (multiple times a year) or spend an extra $40 for the lifetime map license. This is definitely a great offer for those who want to update once every few years (2 to 3 year). $30 for the whole North America... that sure is a heck of a lot better than buying $30 paper maps which only covers 3 counties at most.

Who has $70 lifetime

Who has $70 lifetime updates, www.amazon.com?

As stated at the beginning

As stated at the beginning of this thread it is a reasonable price for Luifetime updates.

Kind of...

gerrydrake wrote:

They did once, I think. The price on the update from Amazon varies quite a bit over time, from $70-$95 or so. The $70-ish price was a one-day offer once in the past year, I think. (Hee, I bought one--then I had to buy another nuvi to be able to activate it.)

Unless you monitor all the sale sites daily, the best way to find a good deal on lifetime updates or new GPSes is to monitor POI Factory daily, since it almost always seems that someone here knows of, and posts, the great deals--ditto for firmware and map update availability.

I did say "offer expired", didn't I? I think it was a one day deal on April 4. I missed it too.

I wish they would offer the same deal for Europe!

LOTS of changes in the roads of Europe over the last couple of years. (Probably fewer now that the EU is having $$$ trouble smile )

Amazon.com folks (if you are listening), please do the same deal for the European map set...
