Can I leave the CIV extension files along with the GPX files or do I need to delete the CIV files once I load the file in the GPX format? This would be before I load the files with the POI Loader??

If I follow your question
If I follow your question correctly you can have both csv files and gpx files together for using poiloader to load to the gps.Once loaded to the gps they all become one big file called poi.gpi located in your Garmin folder under poi folder.

duplications
If the gpx files were created from the csv files and both sets of files are in the same folder when you run POI Loader, you will have duplications of each poi on your GPSr.
Evert, other then memory, if
Evert, other then memory, if I have both a CIV and GPX with the same name (except for the extension)does the NUVI just use the GPX or will it try to use the CIV also.

You need to delete the csv
You need to delete the csv file if you made a gpx file for it or you will get duplicates.
