Mapsource and netbook computers

I am considering purchase of a netbook for internet connectivity and for mapping programs when traveling.

Most netbooks come with Windows 7 starter and only 1 gb of RAM. How does Mapsource City Navigator perform under these circumstances? It would appear to me that 2 gb would be better. Unfortunately most netbooks come with only 1 gb. If you want more, you have to discard the furnished RAM and substitute a 2 gb card. This now raises the price of a netbook by about $70.

How about the starter edition of Windows 7? Would it perform better with Home Premium? If so, that raises the price by another $80.

I'm looking to hear from anyone who is actually using Mapsource with Windows 7 starter on a netbook with only 1 gb of RAM.

My interest is in a small light low cost portable suitable for packing on a bicycle. For car travel my Dell notebook works great, but its too big and heavy for bicycle travel and it also needs a new battery.

Mapsource under XP and 1GB

Mapsource under XP and 1GB of RAM on my Mini 10V functions fine. Under Windows 7 I believe you should have little trouble even with 1GB RAM. 2GB though is better. I DO recommend though spending the extra money and getting Windows 7 Home Premium on your potential netbook. Starter has too many things disabled on it to be really useful, such as (simple thing here) changing wallpaper.

Spend the extra money. You won't be disappointed.
