I just finish writing an Excel Macro to generate GPX files. This allows you to have dial-able (I think I just created a new word!) phone numbers.
Assumptions:
1) First line contains headers!
2) The file will be created where ever you installed Excel (Mac = /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004; PC = c:/program files/microsoft office; and it will be named the same as the tab (this by default to something meaningful like sheet1).
NOTE: POI Loader does not like "&" in the name or address.
Columns:
1) Latitude
2) Longitude
3) Name
4) Address
5) City
6) State
7) Zip
8) Phone
9) Symbol
The macro:
UGH! I forgot that all the formatting is removed. Email me If you would like a copy of this macro.

NOTE: POI Loader does not like "&" in the name or address.
POI Loader expects its input to be URL-encoded. Then you can have an & in the name /address / description / link etc.
Actually, there's quite a lot of things that POI Loader doesn't like - Garmin seem to have written their own XML Parser ... for reasons best known to themselves. POILoader and Mapsource can't read some of the reference files on the Topografix website :-(
