Clearing Old POI's - c550

For some reason I cannot get rid of my old POI's that I have loaded on my c550. If I delete everything out of the poi directory and RESET my device, I can still go to Custom POI and select a location without any issues. I’ve even tried overlaying the file with a single location using POI Loader… the old ones are still there. Any ideas on how I can clear all my custom POI's?

Go to the GARMIN drive

Go to the GARMIN drive and/or your SD card and delete the poi.gpi file(s).

Did not work

I've tried that... it did not work. I still have the old poi's. Currently I have no gpi files in the poi diectory but, I can select custom poi's!

I'm not very familiar with

I'm not very familiar with how macs work, but can you "search" the GARMIN drive and/or SD card with your PC to see if there are any gpi files lurking in there somewhere else. Not sure how they would be in a different location, but may be worth a shot.

Motorcycle Mama you are good!!!

Yeap, there where in the Trash! Now the question is how do I empty the Trash?

Can you select that file and

Can you select that file and delete it from the Trash? Or is there a command to empty the Trash folder?

Still playing

The trash does not show up in Finder (explorer) on the c550. I've tried moving to the main trash, that did not work.

Hmmmm ...

Hmmmm ... maybe some mac users will come in with some ideas.

If it were Windows and you couldn't figure out how to delete it, I would suggest changing the file extension so that it wasn't recognized. For example, change form poi.gpi to poi.old. Have no idea if that's possible on a mac.

OK, I figured out how to empty the Trash! The trash directory is .Trashes. The "." in unix is a hidden directory/file. Since the MAC OS X is bases on Linux I just accessed the C550 directory via Terminal. Issued the rm command in the .Trashes directory and now my trash is empty. And the c550 says I have no Custom POIs! YEA!! Thanks Motorcycle Mama for all your help!

Excellent!!!!! Glad you got

Excellent!!!!! Glad you got it figured out!

All you have to do to empty

All you have to do to empty the trash is pick "Empty Trash..." from the Finder menu or right click on the trash can and select "Empty Trash"

Do this when the Nuvi is still attached and it should work...
If this didn't work, that is very odd...

Weird!

I tried emptying the trash, but the files where still there! I would agree that is weird!

Wrong Directory

It's was also odd that the Nuvi was finding the poi file even though it was no longer in the proper directory...

When you delete something, it goes to a trash folder the Mac OS creates on the GPSr's mass storage device as ssen by the Mac.

If using a Mac, don't delete from the unit - move the file you wish to get rid of from the unit, to the Mac, then delete - and it goes to the Mac's trash folder, not the one the Mac created on the unit.

Your GPSr does not know what to do with the trash folder, and when it boots up, it will load anything that is in there that is in the correct format and make a the poi.gpi file with it.
